Softening a new bridle

Does anyone have any tips to soften a new bridle using stuff I might already have at home.
I dont have any tack conditioner or oil currently (long story) and wont get near a tack shop to buy any soon. I havent bought a new bridle in years and totally forgot how awful they can be! I had to resort to a screwdriver to pull the leather out today :o I cant even tie the noseband prooperly it so stiff!

Would some sort of veg oil work or I also have leather shoe polish, Im probably clutching at straws with those :p

But any tips would be greatly appreciated
 
Olive oil works for most things in life - hair, skin, nails, so why not a bridle? It's a lubricant which is what you need. May even be better than 'proper' leather oil, possibly purer.
 
Olive oil will go rancid (bitter expereince here...)

A stable (no pun intended) vegetable oil like corn oil would probably do. Soak cloths in the oil and wrap the leatherwork overnight. But be aware the leather will leak absored oil afterward.

I wonder (and I honestly don't know!) if something like E45 or sudocream might work?

You might be better off going on the internet and ordering something for express delivery!
 
SO all we had was sunflower oil so I soaked in that for a couple of hours and all I got was a very oily bridle with no difference in suppleness :mad:
I cant even tie the buckles around the bit properly, i guess im going to have to try and get something delivered asap
 
If you are going to order something, try Flexlan, bought some of this recently, used it on a new bridle (not top quality) and some old martingales and it really softened them up. Had forgot just how good the stuff is. Hadn't bought any of this for nigh on 20 years!!
 
Ko-cho-line, best that i have ever found xx if you dont want to go into a tack shop, can order it online either off robinsons or ebay
