I've just started wearing my leather riding boots again after a couple of years of them doing nothing - OMG they are killing my ankles, if I actually walk around in them I know they will rub appallingly :(

Has anyone got any tips for softening them up ASAP? I am sitting here watching TV wearing them tonight to warm them up and try and soften them a bit :D

I have bought a new pair and they are like torture devices! I am bending the leather constantly from every angle I can and trying to loosen it up a bit, then leaving this " Dubbin" stuff on overnight to soak in. I wore them for a show last week and by the end (well actually by the first few minutes!) I was longing for my comfy wellies and wondering if my legs were actually going to survive :D Can't comment on whether this is working or not, can't bear to put them back on yet.

Because mine are an older pair they have established creases.....ouch :D Someone on FB has suggested stuffing them with wet newspaper to stretch them.... someone else has suggested a hairdryer to do the same... I think my feet are about to fall off :D

Go to a sports shop, go to the section selling football shin guards. Find a pair that include ankle protection. The ankle protection should be in a 'sock', ie, a part that you can put your foot in and goes around your heel. You should be able to remove the hard shin guard part easily from the ankle protection part. You can put this on over or under your riding socks, which ever you prefer. I'm sorry if my description is not very clear, but go into the shop, look at the shin guards, and you will hopefully reconise them from my description when you actually see them. This works. I got the idea when I was buying shin guards for my son.
