I know I posted about a problem we had with out 3 year old surface and just wanted to give you a follow-up.

2 weeks ago we went down to Softrack and collected 3 bales of Softrack's equivalent of Turfloat (green and white strips of felt and cotton wool) and harrowed it in to the top 2 inches of my sand and rubber mix.


OMG !

Its completely transformed our surface. Its like a completely different menage. I gave it the test from hell and lunged 3 naughty horses on it and you couldnt even see where Id been. The horses travel on it not under it.

AMAZING.

And to make matters even better, Robert Brazil was a man of his word, returned our calls, met us on a Saturday when the plant is shut and gave us the product free of charge because of a problem with the fibres in the original surface he supplied.

Cant say fairer than that ! I cant recommend them enough.

That's fab, glad you've now got a good surface.

Can I ask what your surface was like? And what type of sand do you have?

I have silica sand and rubber and it is fab in winter for flatwork and jumping. In the sunmmer when we have long spells of dry weather it's fine for flatwork, but gets a bit loose for jumping. I was wondering if something like this would be the answer. I water my surface when it gets like this, but it being a 60 x 40 means it's quite hard. Do you know if this fibre has to be kept wet?

We had Softracks sand/ribber and fibre mix but the fibre came out in the summer as we dont water ours.

Even in the winter it rides deep. Lunging was a no-no and if jumping I had to tread the landing and take off down between jumps !

The fibre in this latest product is designed to absorb moisture and keep it in the sand BUT having had a kick about, the pieces of felt seem to work by resisting travel into the surface so the hoof goes across it rather than deep into it.
