Can anyone explain why two of our horses, one mare, one gelding, straddle their hay supply and urinate, the gelding actually climbed up the bale to do it.
I do know it's the last time they get a full bale, it's back to haynets for them

Hard ground/floor and therefore less splashback?

An annoying thing for them to do though! What about a Haybar? I find the front buckles of rugs tend to get caught in haynets, then again, I might just have strange horses lol.

Thats a first for me - our gelding is dirtier than our mare when it comes to food and poo though. He will poo in his water and feed bucket and haybar! She never soils near her food.

Do they eat the hay later? If they do, they are purely leaving their scent to ensure no one else eats it.

Teddi does this, before I moved him I was saying to other livery, u may as well rake up my hay and give it to yours if mine aren't going to eat it.

So she did, and her greedy pony wouldn't touch it either.

We were baffled as to what was wrong with it, then teddi stood astride the remainder in his field and pee'd all over it while we were stood there!!

Think he doesn't like the splash! I can't give hay on the floor in the field now which is annoying!
