Solar panel query

I am considering using a solar panel with my existing energiser which is currently powered by a large car/lorry 12v battery ( obtained free from a local garage so not new ).

Will this set up work, or do I need a new battery as well - either leisure or car??

Been running mine with a solar panel for years on the same 2nd hand car battery
