I asked about these in my local farm supplies shop and they stopped selling them because they don't give out a strong enough current to be effective apparently, and if the sun doesn't shine for a few days, they don't give out any current.

My local Agri shop doesn't sell them for similar reasons.

I bought one off ebay approx 18 months ago 'cos our yards electric fencing doesn't work very well and my mare kept going through it.
It works on light not sun light and is excellent - to the extent that it powers everyone elses fields too!! (as someone told me when they were working on their fencing and had switched the yards supply off - they wondered what kept zapping them!!)
Really pleased with mine but guess they're all different.
