looking to hear some peoples experiences with solar powered electric fencing - either the extra solar panels you can add (from Halfords etc) or the energisers with built in panels.

Thanks in advance.

(ps - i imagine they wont be all that but if it saves times between charges - that works for me!)

I have a little solar powered energiser, and have never had a problem with it. Gives quite a jolt if I am careless enough to touch it. Have only really used it to do an acre or less though and it keeps her highness where she is supposed to be. A friend currently is borrowing it and is using it for a larger area, but I am not sure how it is going with her escape artist ponies

I've got a little solar panel energiser for my field and its been going strong for about four years now, managed to get a jolt off off of it the other day :)

currently using Angua2's energizer with solar panel, works wonders on SWA the welsh wimp but for my attatude filled, bloody minded, soom to be horse steaks mare its had little effect she walks straight through it (but on saying that she has also proved hobbles dont work on her & learnd to canter in them!!!)

I was quite sceptical when a lady on our yard bought the solar panel to add to my battery but I think its worked. I havent had to charge it up once since its been on. It never needed charging much really but it has been about a year now, since I charged it

I bought two a couple of years ago (energisers with built in solar panels), they have been brilliant and still going strong. The longest fence I have used them for is probably about 800 metres. My horses are not angels with electric but do respect these fencers.

Ehmmm, apparently these solar-powered leccy fencing units are very pinchable by the criminal fraternity, so be careful! I know a friend who had all her fencing nicked. We had a field-gate pinched a few years ago. My animal is in during the night and I've got one of the old-fashioned battery powered Hotline fencer units, so I bring it in at night just to be sure.
