What do you think about the harrassment and accusations levelled at Soldiers returning home, metered out by a group of Muslims.

And as seen on GMTV this morning in an interview.



Your thoughts are...................................
 
That those Muslims were exercising their freedom of speech, which is a right we have fought to protect in this country - however much most of us might find their point of view incomprehensible
 
I think these people do a huge disservice to their community, they are the really ugly face of Islam.

My thoughts? Pretty much the same as what I think of Westboro Baptist Church members... disgusting examples of their faith, portraying an unrealistic image and thank God they aren't the majority.
 
personally I think its an absolute farce and disgrace!!

Yes they are entitled to free speech and opinions etc, but I cannot believe they claim to hate our country, or army etc but are quite happy to hide behind our police for their protection.

I cannot believe british supporters have been arrested but the muslims can stand and hurl such abuse.

I also think if this had been the other way around it would be totally unacceptable!!

but then I would have this some what one sided view, my Ex is currently serving with the poachers.
 
I have to say, i would have lost it, if i'd have been there.
I come from an army family, Grand dad, bother in-laws & father, Grand dad (1st World World), father (Northern Ireland), both brother-in laws the (Falklands).

Yes freedom of speech, the majority of the Muslims are also moving away from this disgrace, it will have a far reaching effect on them if this was to continue.

Our returning soldiers have a job to do & lost friends in doing their duty.

They are hero's in my eyes !

We should not lower ourselves to these cowards, they only want us to react & will should not.

If they don't like the UK then GO !
 
I have to save EquineImage I wholeheartedly agree. I get soo irritated when they (the people involved in this) are so aggressive and abusive in this way against Britain and what our soldiers are doing. The man on GMTV standing up for these protestors accused the soldiers of being nothing more than murderers basically.

This infuriated me, i do not agree with war but i understand certain things needs to be done to try and HELP those innocent civillians who get caught up in it but, this man was in effect standing up for 'his' country and saying it was basically nothing to do with Britain or the US etc. My question to him would have been if he doesn't agree with us and is so dedicated to his own country WHY is he not living over there??!

I was frustrated with the interview as I found him obstructive in his responses and I thought he completely diverted from the questions that were being put to him by Kate Garroway (I am assuming thsi is the interview being brought up here). You could also sense how annoyed she was getting when he just refused to answer the questions! I think she did very well not to scream at him half the time to be honest!!!

Grr, sorry, went on a bit but the whole thing annoyed and does annoy me still.

Might have been nice if the pro-soldier crown had exercised their freedom of speech, stood in front of the very small group of protestors, and drowned them out singing the national anthem, or suchlike.
 
personally i think anyone with such disgust for the Uk and love of their country and countrymen should should toodle on home, they arent forced to live here they choose to! yet hurl abuse left right and centre about our soilders and countrymen, I love the uk I choose to live here, i choose not to live in another country where I dont like the people religion politics ect ect

I suppose it's all very well us feeling that if they don't like it they should bugger off home ( a good idea) but some/many of the protesters may well have lived in Britain for more generations than me

I don't know the nature of the protests/how angry they were/language used etc, but I'm sure there are a great many Christian/Hindu/white?/whatever british people who disagree with the armed forces/the war/the soldiers themselves and may well protest... But we dont seem to get our knickers in a twist as much about them.

*shrugs* But then I havent seen any footage of the protests so have no idea what was said/done.
 
i find it absolutely disgraceful- while you may not agree with the war on terror, why not go and protest at No.10 and the politicians who make the decision?

i also find it hypercritical to shout abuse at soldiers and hide behind policemen too!

i wouldn't say 'go home' as some of the protesters have been here for generations but in the same way that people emigrate to different countries because they don't like life in Britain, perhaps these people could do the same?
would they like the soldiers to protect them if Britain was invaded or would they still shout abuse then?

i am very proud of all of our Armed Forces and think if you feel that strongly then your efforts would be better used lobbying against the politicians making the decisions not the soldiers themselves
 
i wasnt saying go home as in a colour religous or creet issue, it is directed at the hatred for our soldiers protecting not only our civilians but theirs too yet they are shouting hatred ect about soilders britain ect, if they are not happy with britain and want to shout about their country and rights ect go home and protect it and shout there, i would say the same to someone from here who chose to emigrate to say south africa then started shouting the odds if your not happy there then move back home!! you cannot decide to live somewhere that say Muslim is not the way of living and expect that country to change to your way if you want to live as a muslim and expect everyone else to live that way that move back to where that is the way of living regardless of your colour ect i am by no way a rascist I have Jamician and chinese relatives as well as being scottish and live in England, but if I started hating the English way of life and wanted people to wear kilts play bagpipes and eat haggis i would have no right to shout about it in England that would then be my que to pop off back to Scotland!! I have probably typed this all gobildy googe as I am not very good at typing what i mean but I have tried lol

The soldier are doing thier job, for that reason it sadden me that they suffered verbal abuse.

But protecting our country? The WMD were not real, Saddam Hussein was not a threat to the UK (or America for that matter!), the UN did not sanction the invasion, the war was illegal in the eyes of most of the world leaders.

I am not Muslim, I am 100% anglo saxion and I totally disagree with the war in Iraq and Afghanistan but it's done now, we marched to stop it and we were ignored by our elected leader, the Yanks did the same and they were also ignored by there illegally elected leader. The soldiers who fight however are not to blame.
 
I haven't seen these protests but im shocked at the way our troops are treated. All of them have family and friends which they no doubt cant wait to see when they get home, add that to the horrors that they must see and experience at war,i bet the last thing that they want to face when they come home is abuse from the people that they have been taken off to save!

I have been watching Doctors and Nurses at war on the bbc and it is shocking to see the abuse that they get when they are saving the life of a Taliban Rebel.These people can't seem to distinguish between the people that make the decisions they disagree with and the people that have to follow the orders. They saving don't shoot the messenger springs to mind
 
These people are an embarrassment to all rational, peaceful Muslims who have integrated as productive members of UK society. They obviously hoped to provoke an incident but British troops are to professional to let that happen despite being battle-weary and armed with bayonets.

These people who hate the UK so much should really pack up and join their idealogical brethren in the 'Stans. If I went to a mosque and protested in such an aggressive and offensive way, you can be sure that I'd be arrested in quick time.

I also disagree with ANY wars fights agression ect ect, I believe it to be politicions that cause them yet they are the ones with under ground bunkers ect set up to protect them should anything come about, I also believe we should be able to all have our own choice of religion ect without it affecting others, especially as all faiths come down to the same thing everytime we all pray or whatever to the same being just all faiths go about it a different way, we should accept everyone for what they chose to believe and live by, but somewhere along the line this was affected and no-one will ever live in peace and harmony ever again, i dont know the answers to any of this and its a shame!!
 
Re the war in Iraq ..can you imagine if we haden't gone in there?? the fuss and the why dont we do something about sadam he is killing thousands of his own people stuff there would have been in all the papers.. and as for the protesters in luton well what do we expect... the hand wringing lefty do gooders have spent the last 30 or so years encoraging them to feel and act like victims insted of saying your british and when in Rome etc....
 
not sure if im reading your reply wrong lol was it a qr or meant to me? i agree that Suddam was a raving loonatic that needed sorting before he wiped out everyone, I said that I disagree with wars as in they are all about politics and religion but I also support our soilders 1million percent and said those with issues about britain and solders should pop on home!!
 
Its a shame that people are labelled by their religion first. I've never been acused as being 'That Christian'

As are many political leaders but the US isn't invading them, why is that? Is it because the war was never about Hussein mentality, WMD, his treatment of the Curds etc? Was it maybe about the fact Iraq has the largest oil reserve in the world, oil that the Yanks use more of than any country other than China I believe?

Mugabeb is arranging beating for his opponents, rigging elections, allowing his economy to melt down while his people starve and die from colora...where are the US? Oh that's right there's aren't any natural resources worth stealing so they are no where to be found.

Saddam had been slaughtering men women and children for years before Bush et al got their knickers in a twist and invaded. I wasnt aware of any huge fuss?

oh dear like they say never discuss football religion or politics!! i dont disagree with anything everyone has their own views i hate wars i disagree with violence and wish we all loved each other but thats not life but i also think that soilders get the rough end of the deal its government not them they are just doing as they are told yes i think that Suddam was a nutter and yes i agree that many other leaders out there are nutters too, but unfortunately wars dont consist of all the nutty world leaders fighting it out in a big empty desert, I dont believe there is a right or wrong answer to all this as its a personall opinion situation for me im now pulling out of this discussion as there will never be an end to it as like i said there is no right or wrong just everyones individual views. My dream fluffy world we would all get along be friends love all human animal and living/non living beings that aint going to be so I will just live my life as best as i can be as nice as i can and do as much good as i can for others along the way!!

I have always disagreed with the war, but its out of our hands.

I have a very close 'friend' who is leaving for a tour in Afghanistan in less than a month. He has already been out there for 6 months in 2007. When i saw the troops on the TV all i could think about was that the same could happen to him and how much it would ruin the proud moments they are granted once home from risking their lives.

I spoke to him about it all today, he was quite angry about it all. He has told me many times how hard life is over there for them all, and that he has only shot at / injured the people who were trying to kill him. I cried when he told me about how scared he has been for his own life and how he watched a friend die.

These men and women deserve more than this. Yes there is a place to say things, but that wasnt it.
 
As I understand, the 2 people arrested were locals telling the anti-war protesters where to go stick it. Personally, I would have let the 2 groups sort it out - the anti-war lot being out-numbered 10-1!!!
 
I'm behind you all the way with sorting them out, only thats what they would have wanted, the Media would have shown the pictures around to world.
Video of an angry mob sorting the Muslims out in the street, not a good plan, we must remember these are a select few, the majority of Muslims want nothing to do with this group.

I also think the protesters should have been moved away from the route the BRAVE soldiers were marching on.
These guys & girls, have my respect for the job they do for each other & the country, i do hope they will return for good soon.
History has shown us they will be there for a number of years yet.

Right or wrong they are on the ground & we will support them !

All those people who say that the protestors should 'go home'. Are you telling me that there is nothing about the UK as a country or government that you don't agree with? Because if you do then you are just a hypocrit!!

I don't agree with the war, I never have and people (yes people, regardless of their colour, originating country, religion, underwear preference) are entitled to their opinion and are entitled to state it. I do think it was perhaps in bad taste for it to be done that this particular place/time though but I'd think that no matter who was doing it. I don't think the soldiers are to blame for the war, they are just doing their jobs and therefore shouldn't be punished for that.
 
Soldiers are ordered by the Government, so any protests should be directed at Westminster, not the poor lads who have been doing the job.

Yes, they have freedom of speech, which is good, but they should exercise this in a suitable place. I'm quite surprised they survived intact, but then they were able to hide behind the Police.

However, they got headline news reporting, so maybe it had the desired effect in the end.
