Soldiers returning home harrassed by Muslims

I was appalled by these scenes on the news. The Royal Anglian Regiment is our local infantry and several boys never returned from Afghanistan following their tour of duty. They were doing the job they signed up for, they don't get a say in where they are sent.

These 'protesters' are showing total and utter double standards - they are happy to exercise their rights to free speech and expression, but what about our soldiers' rights to exercise their freedom and celebrate their return with a parade.

Thankfully by allowing their demonstration to go ahead they have shown themselves in the worst possible light.

i have been reading this and laughing your all MAD lol why does it matter really we cant make the disions...........

I think you mean 'you're' all mad and I'm pretty sure the correct spelling is 'decisions'.

If you're (that's short for you are hence the appostropy) are going to join the forum and mock regular posters at least use a spell checker and maybe a grammar check.

Errrrr you have also made a grammer mistake in your post.....

"If you're are going to join the forum and mock regular posters at least use a spell checker and maybe a grammar check".

Now if you read your post now, after removing the parenthesis, it does not make sense ........ But then again, it does not really matter.

Soldiers are like smokers .... very young, or very stupid.

Eh? I hope you are not serious?
My grandad - like many many many soldiers, fought to save YOU. He is neither young or stupid.

oh my gosh, what is it with all these random new posters throughout the forum that appear to be intentionally posting on threads to get a reaction?

And yes I am going to react as this is a matter very close to my heart!

Yes you're right maginumberthree, we can't make the decisions but we can pass our opinions on the matter whether that is in a positive or negative light (just as you can!) that doesn't make us mad though or the fact our soldiers are being abused by hate preachers any less of a matter?

and

Tillysmum I can't believe you are referring to these men and women as young or stupid? Yes alot of the squaddies that join up are young (that's a fact) but that doesnt make them stupid!

Do you not think these guys and girls have thought long and hard about whether this career path is for them?

Also there are alot of regiments that wont actuallly let you sign up without certain qualifications! Despite popular belief the army is not full of brain dead meat heads that society have decided are too thick so have handed them a gun and said go and do your best!!!

I am really offended by that comment. My ex husband is 44 and highly intelligent. He is a solidier.

My eldest son came back from Afghanistan last week and my middle son is currently in Iraq. My eldest son was injured in Iraq in 2007, four of his friends didn't return home from that tour. Three of his friends were seriously injured in Afghanistan last year. One will never work again, another lost a leg. The other is hopefully on the mend although it will be a long process.

The item on the news had me in tears. Yes, people are entitled to free speech, but take up grievances with the people it concerns, ie the government in this case. Also, free speech only goes so far in that it isn't acceptable to incite public reaction the way the protesters did by appearing at a parade to welcome home these brave troops. Thats like me standing in the middle of a hunt waving anti hunt banners about - I would expect to trigger a reaction and in my opinion the protesters attended this parade to create as much exposure as they could, but at the expense of these soldiers.

There were images of one elderly man launching himself at the police line to get to the protesters - to provoke that level of anger and distress in one so old is just plain nasty.

The wording on the banners, ie 'baby killers' was inflamatory too, and down right slanderous (sp).

If people have a grievance they should take it to the proper place, not ruin the homecoming of these brave men. I feel the protesters have done them selves no favours whatsoever.

at the end of the day those people who were protesting just have no respect for this country, if they dont like the war they should lobby the politicions instead of insulting a brave group of people who risk their lives everyday.

I am sorry, but this proves my point. War is stupid. Let the politicians fight if they must, but let's stay out of it.
Peace.

Interesting that you make no mention of a similar parade the next day where Muslims were part of the welcoming crowd.

[/ QUOTE ]

I purposely didn't mention Muslims as I don't think it is fair to tar all Muslims with the same brush. I know there were a lot of Muslims who were appreciative of the returning troops.

I guess for me it is just a little close to home with having an ex husband and three sons in the forces, as well as lots of friends.

The lads and lasses on the ground don't always agree with why they are in Iraq, but they do the job they are paid to do with honor and bravery. Targeting the polititions (Sp) is the way to protest, not the people who are just doing their job.
