Oi you! Were you one of the two ladies wearing a lot of brown and grey and black on top of two bay horses riding two abreast until you got to the pub car park?
If you were, then has it crossed your mind that you might be seen earlier by traffic if you thought to put a bit of high viz on you and your horse? I didn't see you until I was about 30 feet behind you coming around the bend, luckily there was already one car behind you going slowly at the time, which gave a useful clue. If you'd had high viz on I'm sure I'd have noticed you about the hedge well before then. Don't you know that you can quickly become invisible beside a hedge or tree or in a patch of shade even when the sun is shining?
Even if you don't care about your own safety, maybe you could care enough about your horse and car drivers to just put on a bit of pink or yellow when you hack out.
It's just a thought.

oh crikey thats a bit close to me!

On a lighter note - I have a full length emergency riding coat which is a beautiful bright yellow and sits in my trunk for the days I forget a coat.

I have however, managed to completely freak out quite a few horses in my yard when riding in it. Mine for some reason take no notice!

Montyforever, we must be pretty close to each other! I thoughty they might be off to Jeskyns Farm.
I would have stopped to rant at them, but there were too many cars held up while they pratted around on horses that they hadn't taught to stand still nicely. I sometimes wave high viz out of my window, but didn't have any to hand today.
I'm sure they wouldn't take any notice, they are the sort of ignorant riders with tiny brains who give responsible riders a bad name.
Lucie07, don't worry, it's the other Cobham, the one in Kent. Maybe you'd like to come visit sometime, we could trawl the lanes in my car, with you ready to hang out the sun roof waving your yellow coat at them.

Yup! I used to go through sole street everyday when i was doing freelance grooming in Harvel but now i just cut through and past nurstead instead!! It makes you wonder why they do the roadwork especially down sole street as theres a bridle path about 2 minutes down the road

I don't know where the bridle path is, but they were coming from the Meopham direction into the village and pulled into the entrance to The Railway car park. It took a while for them to actually look at the car that had been following them and realise that he was patiently indicating and waiting for them to get out of the entrance to the car park so that he could get in it. So they weren't paying a huge amount of attention to what was going on.
It takes a few quid to buy high viz and a few minutes to put it on before every ride. I can't understand the mentality of people who don't do this, particularly on a road like that. Not very bright.

Its one of my pet gripes - you have good cheap hi viz stuff being sold and im sorry no excuse what so ever not to wear it - none at all. surely you and your horses safety is paramount and would you not take every step you can to have that - my daughter from the first time she rode was told - no hat no gloves no boots no ride no hi viz no hack - she first sat on a pony aged months old lol and 21 still keeps those rules and preaches to others grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr now you haveme ranting lol :) xx

Sounds like they have the same consideration for other road users as the three riders who trotted up our lane today three abreast forceing me to jump off the road (I was walking )or be mown down. Not one even acknowledged I was there.

you have to give respect to earn respect and some riders forget this - a thank you a smile a nod of the head or as my daughter does "THANKKKKKKKKK YOUUUUUU" costs nothing but there again manners in general dont but mmmmmmmmmm ??????
