Is anyone on here a member - is it worth joining for the members field and perimieter ride - can you book the school without too much hassle - what is the journey like on a night? - are the Thursday "group" lessons any good and how much do they cost approx?

Any other info would be greatly appreciated as me and a friend are considering joining... but we are at junct 12 of the M6 so its a reasonalbe journey for us

Hi, I am bumping this up a bit for you. SRC is indeed a very worthwhile place to become a member, as I was when in the uk. I am sure there is a member on here thatcan provide a lot more info, all the best

Speak to Applecart, her partner is groundsman at Solihull and she will be able to advise you the ins and outs.

Things have changed a bit up there recently with regards to grounds and school hire etc so have a chat with Applecart

Hi Gingerwitch. Like Nelson11 stated my partner is groundsman and lives on sie at SRC. I've been a member since 1996. The club is very good on the whole. The perimeter ride or boundary ride as its known is open to members (shortly to have a coded locked gate to prevent non members riding round). I rode round there yesterday (I am stabled ten mins away) and it was smashing, lots of canter tracks, woods, stream. The main XC course is seperate from the boundary ride now as lots of people were abusing it at one time, groups of friends of non members. Now it costs £10 to members for the XC course (coded gate) for all day if you want. Membership allows you to have discounts on entry fees and group lessons. For instance £28 until recently for members for the one day event, but £38 for non members. Typically entry fee for SJ classes are £5 for members, £7 for none members, £3 clear round members, £5.00 non members, dressage £6.00 members £9.00 non members, £12 for members for half an hour SJ course hire (full set of jumps) but £25 for 30mins for non members. So as you can see its certainly value for money, but like anything, the more you use it the more value for money it is. Membership is £11 per month for full members. They do direct debit/standing order and you can pay upfront for six months choosing to have winter or summer. The members field has XC jumps/showjumps/dressage arena. The second school (the smaller of the covered schools) is free to members throughout June, July and August. The club holds loads of competitions throughout the year and twice weekly group lessons which are about £10 for two hours for members and £20 for non members (mix of flat and jumping). There hold many qualifiers for large competitions, and lots of clinics from top riders. They have dressage, sJ, XC, one day events, le trec, western, driving, in fact everything you can think of. I should think it would take quite a bit of time to drive down the M6 in the rush hour early evening traffic, however the motorway network normally quietens down around 7pm.

Please access the website for further information or speak to Helen or Sonia in the office for further info. There is a one day event this Sunday at the club (I'm taking part). Why don't you wander over for a look round the facilities.

Here is the link with photos of the main school and XC course.

That is a very impressive write up about the club. I was up there when the BHS event was on and was very impressed the the water complex there, I havent been up there for about 7 years since my riding accident.
I used to be a member and I will join again when I get my new horse in the new year.
