Solo comb/solo rake?

Any suggestions as to which is better?

My mare no longer likes her mane being pulled since coming back from her loaner last July so I have been managing it with scissors snipping upwards so it isn't such a choppy look. She doesn't get nasty or aggressive towards me at all, she just bobs her head and looks round as if to say "ouch mum, that really hurts" lol.

I have previously used a solo comb but I know some people really don't like them so would like some suggestions. Or if anyone has one/both for sale let me know

I recently did Dancer's mane with a solo comb. She won't let anyone pull it short of being pinned down. Her mane is very thick and it took me over an hour to get it looking reasonable. The results are not as good as when you pull; it tends to look messier, and thinning is very tricky as you have to cut the hair close to the neck. The downside of which is it grows back much quicker and tends to stand up a bit, but if you don't mind doing the mane a little more often it should be fine. I also found I could sneakily pull a few strands here and there whilst using it. Hopefully she'll eventually allow me to pull it properly and maybe your mare will begin to relax when she realises you're not trying to yank enormous chunks out at once (which may be why she's reluctant to let you do it now).

I use a razor comb from the chemist - it's a fraction of the price of a Solo Comb. It is great for shortening, but I dont need to thin so don't know how useful it would be for that.

Would she let you twitch her? My mare hates her mane being pulled but I find it's too thick to use anything else plus I do like a nice pulled mane I dont see the point in stressing her out so just pop a twitch on so no stress involved and it's done in less than 10 mins.
