Some adds for horses do make me giggle.....

I swear I have seen worse

The best is some of the replies that you get!!

I offered my pony for part loan/share and wrote quite a long detailed add about him being only suitable for a child with an experienced parent or a small experienced adult due to his strength and naughtiness

I mentioned that I was "happy to give the odd lesson on him" as thought it was a sensible way of monitoring their riding and progress and ensuring every ones safety and pleasure

You honestly wouldn't believe the responses I had from kids thinking I was basically giving my pony away and offering free lessons all day every day. Wish I had kept some of them. They would pester and pester .

Despite having never sat on a horse and having no one to bring her to the farm - one girl still emails after 6 months asking if things have changed and she still "loves him because of the photo"

Sign of the times.....the sad thing is that some people are that desperate and prepared to give their horses away, especially if they are not 'marketable' and can't face pts as the alternative.

However expecting to get a rideable and problem free horse for nothing does bemuse me!

They may strike lucky.

My yard has recieved regular calls for the last 8 months offering us horses for free. Many are the old and lame that you would expect, but some are decent horses with history. The owners have fell on hard times and can't afford to keep them. The market for non competition horses seem to be very slow atm. Owners can't afford to spend the money on livery whilst waiting for the horse to sell and want a good home quickly.

Agree with Silent Knight; some people may just not want to pay livery fees for a few months and all the other costs when they can't afford it due to unforeseen redundancy or similar. As we all know it all adds up.

If I had to sell our mare for some unforeseen reason (hopefully never!) then if the right home came up and I knew she'd be well cared for and happy then I would let her go for free if I could stay in contact and visit. However I wouldn't do it with anyone just advertising on a website - it would have to be a word of mouth situation or to a friend.

The internet & kids with mobile phone numbers have a lot to answer for!

It's kids who have a dream - sad really. Just really hope they don't get their dream answered as will have a tough time explaining to their parents why a skyscraper horsebox has just drawn up in their driveway with a 51.2 hh horse on board!

Surely it must be!

I think you are being mean!! I bet their is a 2 YO 15.5hh horse out there that loves really "high" grass and only going out for hacks on a Sunday and prefers its water source to come from an 'out side tap' appose to an inside tap!

Sounds like a dream yard - esp when the broken box is fixed
