Morning to all.
As you can see, I am fairly new to this site and would value some advice please.
I recently started riding again after an 8 year break. I have been having lessons at a local RS, but it just isn't the same as having your own horse. I love riding, but I miss the rest of the stuff involved, ie. mucking out, poo fights at the muck heap, general chatter at the yard, watching the horses you care for improve and grow, the smell of saddle soap, you know the general day to day stuff.
It's just not the same, you turn up for your lesson, your horse is already tacked up for you and then you have your lesson. I do get to untack and rub down after, but only because the time I go is the last lesson of the day, and because I offered to do this.
The other thing is, I always seem to get a different horse every time I go, which means that you can't build any kind of bond or trust with them.
I was considering asking my RS if they needed any helpers. I don't want any pay, not even a reduced rate for riding. Do you think that they would go for this?
I don't have loads of spare time, but could do a couple of week days (school hours) and probably sundays.
I have only been going there for about a month, and I don't want them to think that I am pushy or anything. Like I said at the beggining, it's been a while since I was involved in the horsey world and am not sure how things have changed. My general yard skills are probably quite rusty too, but I can still remember how to do things, just need the chance to do them.
I am looking to get my own horse again in a year or two, and I don't want to make a complete hash of it by not being confident enough to care for it proplerly.
Anyway I geuss what I'm really getting at is, do you think that I should ask the RS if I could help out there, or do you think that I should leave it a bit longer?
I thought that now might be a good time as the summer holidays are nearly over, and all of their helpers that are still at school/college will be gone soon.
Please help!
Thanks.
