Some advice please!!

When I rode yesterday horse was very chilled for first half and very unchilled for second half. Giving huge snorts and very on his toes. Turned him out and he grazed quietly all afternoon. Brought him in and basically he wouldn't settle. Usually gets stuck into his hay until it's gone but he was snatching a mouthful then walking round his box, head out stare into distance as if he had seen something exciting and so on. Not colic and fine otherwise.
Same this morning and when I went to hack he crushed me against the gate while I was closing it and wound himself into a frenzy. Crapping everywhere and covered in sweat. Decided no way I'm getting on that so will lunge first. Nearly fell over on lunge was so wound up and giving these huge snorts. Not scared just like he was over excited.
So finally decided to turn him out and he settled to grazing quite happily.
He can be a loon but has never been like this before. Am going to see how he is tomorrow and then if no better will get the vet out.
Any ideas? Sorry turned into War and Peace!!

What is the weather like around you? Its hot and horrible around us with flies everywhere, I wish it would thunder and get it over with - could this be what is upsetting him?

Just trying to think of what winds mine up like that, and usually with him is it horseflies

Same as it's been all week really, if anything a bit cooler today. I just brought him in and walked him up to the yard gate. He grew 6 inches and crapped again. Nothing has happened to him there so very odd. I'm fairly certain it's not his eyes or anything nasty like a tumor as he is fine when turned out.

Mine get like this when the farmer is moving the cows, i can never hear anything but they obviously can and it really freaks them both! Could be a sound he can hear or maybe a bite somewhere that is really frustrating him as he can't get to it and if he moves a certain way it irritates it?

Something on the wind? horses have far greater 'senses' than we have, just my thoughts, this used to happen occasionally with an old TB gelding we had years ago, we used to leave him for a day or two as he didn't compete anymore.
