A friend has a TB mare, 6 this year. She is a lovely, well mannered, schools nicely, Hacks alone or in company, Went to a lot of local shows last summer. Done a bit of dressage, xc and jumping. All going very well until now.
She won't hack alone ( did get frightened by a car going through a puddle some months back) and is very tense if hacked in company. Her field is 100 yards up the lane and has to be led in and out with another horse. She has also started being naughty in the school.
Her work load has obviously been less over the winter ( schooled, lunged or hacked when not knee deep in snow or sheet ice ) she has daily turnout 7.30am - 4pm. Only fed calm and condition with chaff.
Yesterday she was scared of every car that saw and played up in her lesson. Today she was an angel.
Is it an age thing ?
Taking the pee ?
Just too much energy ?
Possibly hormones ?
Ideas please x

Season? I know my mares become ridiculously 'spooky' and dramatic about the most innocent thing, during their season. It might be worth keeping a log of when the behaviour flares up and see if it's season related. If it is, there are things that can help.
