Well Vets been, I asked what the problem was an apparently they are understaffed and there are ALOT of lami and colic cases kicking about so i kind of understood that and I got an apology so fairs fair :)

Well Vet is amazed at how the wound has levelled out, There is one wee bit of area she wants to granulate a bit more but is pleased at how the wound has closed up, I fessed up and told her I havent been bandaging it :o got a bit of a telling off but once vet saw the hair on her legs coming off she understood.

One part is starting to over granulate a little bit so she has put some sort of patch on this part (looked like a corn plaster but bigger) that has something in it that will help stop it but has bandaged the rest of the leg up and has told me it has to be kept bandaged for 4 days.

Not happy but I will leave it on for four day then re-evaluate her leg vet has left it up to me whether or not it needs another bandage after this.

No lameness trotted up sound so all in all a good visit :)

No gore this time :)

Have to say I agree with the vet, this is a wound that shouldn't be left open, and tbh I'm surprised you decided to just take healing into your own hands/on the advice of forum/yard members rather than vets as they have actually learnt about how wounds heal etc. Glad it's now rebandaged and looking well.

Hmmmm not sure how to take your reply but I will answer as to WHY I felt the need to take off the bandage, which wasnt ALL based on a forum but my own experience of my horse :)

Her skin peels off under bandages, which the last time she was bandaged led to cellulitus and an abcess which meant she was lame longer, in pain longer and stressed out longer due to being kept in longer, get the picture ;)

You have to weigh up the good and the bad, the wound looks fab, is clean with no infection and she hasnt got big bits of skin hanging off her legs and more wounds than she should do for infection to set in. :) She also isnt getting vast amounts of AntiB's pumped into her (running the backside out of her like last time) and isnt stressing herself thin about being stuck in a stable :)

Different vets favour different practices, just the same as different horses react differently to situations :) Thank you for your input tho :)

From looking at the previous pictures you have posted (YUCK BTW ) i would say that your decisions (regardless of how or why they were made) have been good ones considering that the wound is looking good.

Didnt your mare hurt this leg last year? Or have I got you confused with someone else on here?

Yes she fell in the trailer on a away to a hunt meet and tore this leg to the bone :( It recovered very well apart from all the bandage complications.

It's looking much better! Hope she continues with her recovery!

Thank you :) I am hoping that we wont have alot of bother with secondary infections like we did last time :)
