I am looking for some exercises to do with my mare to help her "learn" not to fall/drop out of canter.

She recently had the physio out to her and it was noted that she was quite tight in areas and this would affect the way she worked and why she didnt pick up the correct lead on left canter but the physio worked her magic and loosened her off (getting second appointment at the start of December to make sure everythings ok).

So, now 9 times out of 10 she is picking up the correct lead on the left canter but she is falling out of it but doesnt do this on the right rein. Obviously it will be to do with her years of not doing it correctly to trying now.

What sort of exercises would you suggest to help her be more uphill in the downward transition from canter to trot??

Thanks :D

Keep the canters short to start with, do a transition before she falls out of it even if you only manage 3 or 4 strides then ask again as soon as you have managed to rebalance her, keep repeating you should be able to do at least 3 or 4 up and down transitions on a circuit or circle. As both up and down improve the quality of the canter inbetween should also get better and you will find she can remain in canter for longer more easily.
Do longer periods on her good rein to help build up her strength and overall fitness which will also help.

Ditto be positive. And out on hacks, I would ask for canter on that rein too, she's far more likely to stay in it if she's busy thinking of something else.

I try to do this but she can prove quite difficult but will keep at it, thanks.

Hacking is a whole other issue, we turn into a fizzy pony hacking so tend to try schooling in an open field to get her used to things lol
