Some information needed on horseriding history

Can anyone give me some information? I'm writing a novel, set in the present, but need to refer to a horseriding accident in 1900.
What would a young, northern, upper middle class woman be wearing when riding? Would she ride sidesaddle? Would she just trot or walk along or would she be allowed to be a bit more racy? I don't know anything about horses or riding. Can anyone help?

If she were side saddle she would probably be wearing a Habit and some sort of hat with a veil/netting over her face.She could ride with the pace (canter/Gallop).I hope this helps.

I reckon probably side saddle, if you contact the side saddle association they'd be able to give you lots of history.
