I'm sat here on my own thinking about Lucy and just thought I would share another story of the most amazing pony I've ever had the privelidge of knowing and I know there will never be another one like her ever again.
Her memorial page on Facebook now has 107 members. The thing that shows just how special she was though is the fact that only 13 of those people actualy ever met her. Most of the other people are from HHO. She touched so many people by not giving up in the end but this pony never gave up she faught her whole life I've never known a pony like it such a strong charecter and such a will to carry on. She taught me never to give up and to just give it ago.
Lucy The amazing jumping pony.
Ever since the first time I loose jumped Lucy I knew she enjoyed it. She would jump the jump canter round the school and do the jump again. It was actualy hard to get her to stop. No matter how high the jump was Lucy never needed a runout tunnel.
One day after Lucy had had abit of time off after an attack of COPD I desided to give her a little loose jump in the school. As she had had so much time off I kept the jump small (about 2ft). On this day Lucy was being very naughty and kept running out of the jump. I couldn't understand why as we normaly jumped much bigger than this and she loved it. I desided to build a runout tunnel and put it as high as I could so I put planks on the top hole of the 5ft wings. Lucy went into the runout tunnel but refused to jump the tiny jump so I went in behind her to chase her over the jump. Some of the other girls from the yard had come into the viewing gallery and where now laughing at me. Telling me how useless Lucy was, she couldn't even get over a 2ft cross pole, there horses could jump so much bigger than she could, they often loose jumped 4ft. As I tried to ignore the other girls and tried to encourage Lucy over the jump Lucy stood looking at me with her big brown eyes. I pleaded with her to just jump the jump I knew she could do it, she had done it so many times before. Suddenly she turned to face the runout tunnel. One of the girls shouted "That piece of S*** should have been made into dog food months ago" Just as she finished her sentance Lucy took off. She jumped the 5ft runout tunnel from a compleate standstill. I couldn't believe what I had just seen and when I looked over to the girls in the gallery they where all stood silent with there mouths open wide.
On landing Lucy turned to face me. She looked at me for a second then snorted and ran round the school. As she passed the gallery she had a huge bucking fit and kicked sand all over the girls who had said such hurtfull things about her. Then she came over to me and just stood there infront of me. I could almost hear her saying we showed them.
Afew weeks passed from the loose jumping incedent. I was back riding. I was riding her in the school with a few of the other girls on there horses. They desided to have a game of chase me charlie. Lucy was the smallest in the group she was only 13.2hh the next smallest was about 15hh. The jumps got bigger and bigger. One by one the other girls where elim. Till there was just Lucy and the biggest horse left. The jump was now 3ft the highest Lucy and I had ever jumped But we managed to jump it without much problem. This anoyed the other girl who was still in the game and when one of the others mentioned Lucy had loose jumped over 5ft she got even more annoyed. Unfortunatly the one still in the game knew me to well. She knew I was terrified of jumping and before that day the biggest I had jumped was 2ft9. She demanded the jump be put to the top whole. Which ment the jump was 4ft. She rode her horse into it well but it had the fence down. Next it was my turn. I felt to sick the jump was nearly as big as Lucy. I knew she could jump it but I was so worried I would let her down. I could hear the other girls saying I would never jump it, they said I was to much of a whimp. I started riding a circle infront of the jump. Everytime I passes the jump I could see just how big it was. I felt sicker than I had ever felt before and my whole body was shaking. I could feel the other girls looking at me and I knew they where all waiting for me to bottle it. It seemed like I was circling infront of that jump forever. I probably did 10 circles before I desided Sod it I'm just gonna go for it. I turned one last circle as I passed the others I heard one say well the pony will never jump now she's turned to many circles. I came out the circle and lined Lucy up to the jump. I wispered in her ear "Please Lucy, jump the jump" I felt her take hold of the bit and lock onto the jump. I shut my eyes and just went with the flow. I felt her take off and it seemed like we where in the air forever. We landed the otherside and cantered away from the jump. I still couldn't open my eyes but I haddn't heard a pole drop and from the silance in the school I assumed we had cleared the jump. Eventualy I opened my eyes and looked at the jump still up and looking Huge. I couldn't believe it we had won the chase me charlie, we had jumped the biggest jump we had ever jumped and we did it with them all laughing at us. This was the same pony who I had spent 6 months trying to catch and had spent the last year falling off nearly everyday and I had just trusted her with my greatest fear, jumping. I knew from that moment we had a great future ahead of us and we could achieve anything we wanted to nomatter who was laughing at us and how much they told us it wasn't possable.
Thankyou for reading. I still miss her so so much and just wanted to share another story of our time together with you all.
