Chloe had her check up today.

Was firstly really pissed off because the swimming people hadn't sent the vet any of her paperwork so he didn't know anything about how she was getting on.

Basically, her left (operated) hip is doing well but not as well as he had hoped, not as much muscle build up as there should be. Not the end of the world but not great.

But the bad news is that her right (unoperated) hip is much worse =[ he thinks that he can now feel it dislocating and relocating as he manipulates it. And he also feels that the reason she is using her left leg so much in swimming is because her right hip is sore. So instead of it being 3 or 4 years til she needs the next done its probably 2 or 3 months. He wants to wait til January and reassess, and then book a date.

So, back to square one really! Feeling a bit dishearted tonight. xxx

Aw crap, sorry to hear that :(

In fairness re the left hip, it hasn't been *that* long in the grand scheme of things to build up muscle and she is maybe protecting herself because of the issue in the right.

At least she is young and maybe getting the second op out of the way sooner rather than later might be better in the long run.

Not overly worried about the left hip muscle build up as tbf we've been manic with new jobs and my placement so she's basically not being walked at all really so I'm not suprised that she is behind where he wants to be.

We're also feeling pretty similar to what you said CC, in a sense its best to get it out the way when shes young. However, vet says that when they're young sometimes the bone can 'grow back'?? So she might need the operation twice.....?! But I'm sure thats crap....??!?!?!?!

As you say the muscle will probably improve on the left leg when you are able to give her lots of steady walking, and if she has to have the other one done in many ways it is better that she has it done whilst she is still young. Don't know enough about the op to be able to comment on the bone growing back, but our JR was only around 2 when she had the op and the leg never gave her trouble again and she lived until she was 13.

Sorry to hear this. As others have said, hope all improves by january.
At least you will know what to expect when the time comes for the second op.
Thinking of you.

Thanks guys. Just feel a bit like, why don't we ever get a bloody break?! If its not one thing, its another =[

Anyway, wouldn't want to put her in any pain SO will have it done as soon as we can really. Grrrr.
