Here are some of my digital paintings. I will do any animal but am only posting dogs here with it being the dog forum.
Enjoy :)

Beautiful! Loving the Shepherd, working line by any chance? :D
I find it really hard to find car stickers, mugs, figurines that I like, all the stock images seem to be black-and-gold and/or old English long low style dogs - if you were thinking of going down that road :D

Well I would definitely buy them and so would a lot of other people I know :)
A mousemat of him would be fab :)
Be great for shows and trials etc, like I say, I looked for ages before I could find a car sticker that looked like the kind of dogs I have, grey or black!!

Firstly, I think they are fab! :)

For the uninitiated (elderly, barely PC literate - me!) could you please explain what a digital painting is?

Sorry.

Dh did a drawing of a black german shepherd and has tried prints and greetings cards showing it and really struggles to sell them. Must be a very niche thing.

The black and grey dogs will be more found at working trials than dog shows - that's where he needs to be looking :)
He might approach some of the working clubs or breeders (there are a handful of breeders specialising in black dogs but they would be working or dual purpose kennels rather than straigh breed ring showing)
He can do one of Floofy if he likes :p

To be honest he has never tried dog shows, only ever horse shows. It is so difficult selling dog pictures as everyone wants not just their breed, but the right colour and type. For example he has two german shepherd pictures, one long haired black and tan and one black, you can guarantee that if we get someone looking for a picture of a german shepherd we will show them those pictures and they will want a short coated black and tan or something we haven't got.

He will do any type or breed for commission, and once commissioned he would be happy to reproduce it onto merchandise for the client but he can't produce every possible breed and colour. So frustrating, but you have to hedge your bets and do what you hope will be most popular!

Especially as we aren't hugely knowledgeable about dogs it is difficult to know what subjects to go for, so we tend not to target the canine market too specifically although he probably does more dog pictures than anything else!

Indeed, you can't keep everyone happy! I am sure everyone has different tastes, as you say, if it not the colour then it is the coat type and the conformation!
But without hijacking K&B's thread in a GSD Mafia stylee, it is lovely to see something that is not your usual black and gold :)

Well without hijacking http://www.mark-langley.com/dogsandcats.htm the black GSD is right down at the bottom of the page.

To produce them I first draw all the outline etc onto paper and then transfer it onto the computer. I use a graphics tablet and pen to do all the colour work in photoshop. It's the same as drawing on a sheet of paper using the tablet but the image is on the screen rather than the surface the pen is drawing on.
I will do breeds as and when I can photograph them as I can't use copyrighted images from google etc. I have to either take them myself or use photographs provided by the dogs owner that are copyright free.

I can supply you with some Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla pics, there's next to nothing decent with them on :D
