what feeds/ supplements have been successful for some energy,

my mare is 23 and lacking some she is on comp mix and propel / red cell

have tried winergy red and phase 3

also livery with same prob only he is 27

i used to use equine energy but i cant find this any more this was briliant

High starch feeds (e.g. course mixes, cereal feeds) will provide quick release energy that may, in some horses, produce more 'oomph' as you put it.

However there are many risks feeding this type of feed, including colic, laminitis, azoturia, obesity. Horses have digestive systems designed to use fibre and not high amounts of starch.

Have you considered that there may be another cause for your horses lack of energy? Things to consider include her tack fit, teeth, health, foot balance and above all else her age! Older horses just dont have as much energy as younger ones!

Whilst the diet can be a contributary factor, at 23 and 27 i think lack of energy is more likely to do with old age and possible stiffness or restricted movement.

I know its not tack had it checked by saddles direct teeth no she had the equine dentist in jan and has check up every year not feet either stifness again no she is on flexi joint which is amazing stuff she did a sponsored ride weeks back and was ok.

I am always carefull about too much protein when she has to have time off as she had Exertional Myopathy when she was young

was weired how both were like it, in her case all i can put it down to is

1. her propell plus had run out
2. maybe high pollen
( she has asthma ) she has an inhaler but her breathing not raspy as it normally is when bad.
The best thing i ever found for instant energy was

equine energy little hard pellet like peas which once eaten in 5 mins they were bouncing race horses used it but cant find it now a days

Yes, i know what you mean.

What you are looking for in your horse is slow release energy. You get this from oil and i know the product you are talking about as i use it on my horse also

You can still buy it and it is now called Baileys Outshine.

Best of luck with your horse

no i dont think so as the other sponsored ride was only 4 weeks back and she was manic even bucked which she doesnt do and she was so strong pulling my arms out
