People in the CR might remember i posted a while ago about this girl who came to Mossburn occasionally, did almost no work and rode Blacky as Blacky was the only one she would ride and refuse to ride any others, meaning i couldn't ride her.

She couldn't ride, even though she said she could and was scared of riding. this was fair enough but she made poor Blacky scared too!
When she was riding her, Blacky suddenly became petrified of tractors, fallen down trees, going downhill and wouldn't trot

She also insisted on taking Blacky on the roads all the time, despite YM telling her not to, probably because she felt safer but if she's scared of cars and tractors that doesn't make much sense. she also trotted her a lot on the roads, which Blacky isn't used to and wasn't good for her shoes and feet.

anyway, enough blethering but YM got a call from this girl who hasn't been in touch for ages. She was asking advice on getting a 16.2hh hunter! pmsl!

She couldn't ride Blacky who is such an easy horse to ride and she was thinking about getting a huge hunter! YM quickly put her off the idea

Sorry bit of a pointless post but i found it really funny.

I have to agree that its weird! However being head girl on a hunt yard and hunting myself, I have to say that most people who hunt dont know how to ride, simply how to stay on! half the people I keep horses for cant even take their own bridle off without it ending up in 4 or 5 pieces!!!

The daughter of a colleague of mine did work experience on a well known yard. She was asked to muck out and didnt know how!!! She'd had a horse on loan for 4 years and did have access to a stable! Colleague found it funny!!! I found it gobsmacking!!!!!

I thought it was one of the first things you learned!!

gawd, I remember a girl like that years ago at the riding school, she was terrified of anything that went faster than 5 mph and didn't like jumping at all. Many years later I was told by someone she'd bought a horse of her own (one that I knew and knew to be a bit "hot") Apparently she got on just fine with that horse...

I used to keep my mare on a small hunting yard near Banbury. We had a full livery on the yard who used to live in London and just came up to hunt. He was the first to admit he wasn't a rider. We took him to a hunter trial and he came to the part where he opened the gate. As soon as the horse started to slow down he let his contact go on the reins and the horse went sailing over the gate, horse and rider ended up in a heap on the floor, luckily both ok!!

We also have someone locally who hasn't got the first idea on horses, can't even tack one up. Bought her daughter an 8yr old pony, that didn't work out so she sold it and bought 4yr old pony which surprise, surprise, also turned into a bit of a disaster so she has just swaped it for a 16.1 hunter, the kid is only 11 and was terrified of her 14.2hh never mind putting her on a 16.1hh! Doesn't matter how much advice you give some people it just goes in one ear and out the other.
