Took my dog to a charity event today centred around dogs. It was great fun, really enjoyable and my dog loved it really enjoyed himself! He also got 3rd place in a fun doggy class :D

What's wrong with that you say?
Well, my dog is a 9 month old Rottweiler and the amount of people giving him dirty looks or sidestepping him purposely. one woman even said to the man she was with, 'they shouldn't allow dogs like THAT at a place like this!!'
well i'm sorry but there is nothing wrong with the breed, he's still a baby for goodness sake and soppy as they come! its the owner not the dog-simple.

was really good talking to the other rottie owners they were all so friendly and we were all laughing about those type of people. even cuter was a really fluffy 12 week old rottie! the looks we got when there were a few of us at one point standing there with four rotties was amazing. what are we gonna do? take over the fete with our killer dogs eh? ridiculous!
 
No lots of people are small minded- and not just about your breed|!!! If you had met me I would have been asking for a big cuddle!!!! :)
 
lol, Lexie knows this more than most after the last week!

We exploit this slighly with our mastiff X guard dog. she looks and sounds the part but her fave thing is cuddles from me and my little boy :)

Just brush it off, prejudice is everywhere.

haha good ! ;) a few people did come over for cuddles with him and he was well up for it. those that did either owned rotties, had owned them, or just liked the breed!
it was really nice when Nico plonked himself down in the lap of a lady who was wary of dogs as she'd been attacked by one. Nico was just like have kisses! oh and scratch my bum....
she said she found it hard but he won her over and she really liked him. by the way, we didn't realise otherwise we would not have let him climb on her! and one boy who asked if he could stroke him, because he'd never met a rottweiler before and would like to meet one! :D

yeah i do have pretty thick skin when it comes to it. i knew before we got him i'd have to put up with that so don't mind too much. when he was little it was 'aww puppy!' and now he's still a baby but much bigger they're like 'oohh...er..'

bless her, the biggest scary ones are (in my experience) the biggest softies behind closed doors :p

It's all your own fault for having one of these evil vicious killer creatures, my aunty's second cousin's brother's best mate had a very nasty experience with a dog that looked a bit like one of these other dogs fifty-seven years ago, ok it was a different colour and a different size and actually thinking about it, it might have been a shetland pony, but still I will never trust these dogs ever and you should never ever take it out, unless it's attached to one of those Hannibal Lecter-style cart thingies, because someone somewhere might not like it...

There we go, that should save some of our new posters the trouble of commenting:D

Silly people, hold your head high, train and enjoy your dog and let them get on with it:)
 
lol spudlet! we met an older couple who have had rotties for 30 plus years and they had two with them today. Was telling the old boy about the people with there little dogs pulling them out the way and saying something about them being lunch and the old boy just said say , oh your ok he's had two already!!
 
the temptation to shout: 'nico, attack!' just to see reactions was intense but unfortunately would probably have had us kicked out... :rolleyes::D (plus, if i had, he most likely would have gone 'duuur...what duz dat meen?' :confused:

I don't know why anyone wants to own a dog like that, it's clearly because you want to look hard/you're a drug dealer.

(There's another comment I've saved someone from typing :p)
Had it all my life, people crossing the street, people saying 'it will end up turning on you' (yeah, that's why the police, Guide Dogs for the Blind use them...) people running away squeaking (if you want to get chased by a dog, that is definitely the way to go...) etc etc etc....

oh yeah! i always have something stuffed away in my pocket and when no one is looking i feed it to my vicious dog so that he may enjoy a tasty treat.. his favourite is yorkshire terrier...
this is a very obvious question but don't you have german sheperds? i was best mates with one until i was 5 and then she was given away due to my mum having a new baby. but they're really soft and saw some MASSIVE ones today. either way, no-one was giving them a wide berth considering they can be 'bad' too IF brought up incorrectly. All the little staffies were being avoided like the plague too. Very inaccurate opinions on them really but people need to realise if you go to a dog fair you're going to see a lot of different dogs! :rolleyes:

Yes, get used to the comments, it's taken years but I tend to just smile now and say he doesn't eat people or dogs, they give him indigestion...

Even better, mines a talker so he woo, woos at them too :eek:
 
Aw I love rotties :) Every single one I have met without exception is a big softie and the one our local dog walker brings through the farm is best mates with my lurcher. The only thing I dislike about them is the way their tails are docked so short :( and I guess that could lead to alot of people misreading the body language, after all a big wagging tail is the first thing most people look for to see if a dog is friendly....

Now if I were going to avoid any particular breed it would be a breed of owner not dog I'd be looking out for ;)

awh bless that's a good'un :D haha Nico pup speaks on command, the rest of the time he makes a funny 'uff' noise when trying to get the other dog to play !

It's illegal to dock their tails now, Nico has his. I love the way it curls right up over his back it's very funny :D Personally i prefer all dogs to have their tails :)
Yep like we always say, it's not the dog it's the owner.... ;)

just to clarify taylor, i did not just give gemma away! She was far to clever for her own good and would open the front door when i went out on the school run and be sat on the doorstep waiting for me when i got back! (never bloody opened it when i locked myself out though!) One day some neighbours came round and said she had opened their guinea pig hutch and killed it,she never had any blood on her anywhere so i don't know if she did or didn't. When i had the baby she would not leave the pram alone even though i had introduced her so my friend took her on and kept her til the day she died.

I met two rottie pups a while ago, sadly too big to smuggle under my top.:(

My two creatures are very anti small furry things: they would have eaten a guinea pig in one go. :o

Hmm, is it common for Alsations/GSD's to guard ? I do wonder often. Saw some MASSIVE ones at the fair today and just thought...i want one of those...:D

hmm the trick is to slyly set them free from their lead and leave a good-smelling treat trail back to your car and then whisk them in and shoot off! :D:D

what breed of dog do you have? :)
 
When I was born my mum and dad had 1 of these big guarding beasties (GSDs :p), 3 daft as brushes (Golden Retrievers) and a very intelligent Heinz 57 (can you still call them that???)
They used to leave me alone in a room with the GSD and the Goldies (:eek:) and my Goldie used to rest her head on my baby bouncer and rock it (I loved that!) My GSD would have guarded me with her life bless her (under threat you understand, not in a possessive way).

My M+D got a lot of stick for leaving me (or even having me) in the same room as the GSD - not the Goldie OR the Heinz (who was a little bit temperamental and was never left alone with me) but the GSD only.

I've had people shoving their kids out into the road rather than walk anywhere near our Shepherd and people commenting that "dogs like that shouldn't be walked in public" - well where would you like me to walk it?????!!!
Yet you have a Yorkshire Terrier/Westie/Chihuahua etc snarling and snapping and people go "aww isn't it sweet!!"
Funnily enough nobody ever comments like that on my Goldie, and she's the one who you have to watch!! :rolleyes:

but i get the comments my little one is a danger and should be muzzled....and hes a ferret! :eek::p

ahh it does drive me nuts! it's the owner every time. true some dogs have stronger guarding instincts than others, but just because they have those instincts does not make them evil. plus Nico only ever displays such behaviour, if EVER when he's at home and he wouldnt dream of being aggressive out in a public place! well, he wouldnt dream of being aggressive full stop.

oh dont...the amount of times i almost begged my mum for another rottie pup today...and mine isn't even fully grown yet! :D:D
