some people dont deserve nice horses

On our yard we have a neglected pony (I have previously posted on here about) which the owner finally has advertised for sale. A lovely family came to see him and sale agreed subject to vetting, so we all had our fingers crossed he would finally have some one to love him. Any way long story short the vet came today and opened the stable door and said 'Do you want me to continue as I can tell you now he will fail'. In a 5 min examination the vet found signs of Laminitis, periods of starvation, dropped heals from poor/no farriery, healed wounds from an embedded head collar and thrush. I just want to treat her the same as she has treated her pony. I believe there is some where in Austria suitable!

No they left in tears as they had really taken to him. We knew he had had lami and if we dont feed him he can be left for days.

There are people who cant tell a horse has face wounds from an embedded collar/laminitus..?

I'm sure there are, yes. A lot of people don't know what to look for. Perhaps the embedded marks were on the poll, and covered by mane?
And I'm sure not everyone knows what lami rings look like! Not everyone is an expert, which is why vetting is so important.

In an ideal world, yes potential buyers should know what they are looking for, but unfortunately many don't. And everyone has to start somewhere

I hope this pony's story has a happy ending

report them, they sound awful and will never get 1700 for a pony with so many problems, the rescue home offer was more than reasonable, give me their number and i shall go give them a kicking and make them realise they dont deserve a penny for the pony after the way it sounds they neglected it!!

We have tried to report them but because we wont let the pony starve no one wants to know. Awful I know but thats how things are. Every ones scared to make her move as at least we know the pony wont starve on our yard. We worry she will find somewhere no one will keep an eye on things and god knows what will happen to the poor guy. He really is a lovely pony.

If the horse had all VISIBLE symtoms why have a vetting done anyway......................???????????????

How is that relevant at all..?

Oh cyrils mum this is horrible- i have been in almost the same situation at my yard this winter and its just so awful to see and not be able to do anything about- Its nice that the yard managed to come up with the money- shows how mant kind peeps are around. Maybe the owner will accept your offer when they realize they cant sell the pony??

Yes, I should make it quite clear to the owner that their pony has been grossly neglected and because of it will not sell for £1,700. Offer the £800 and she/he might snap your hand off. In fact, judging by how you describe the poor little s*d I doubt whether he is even worth that much, but it would be great if you could get hold of him and give him all the TLC he deserves.
Do let us know what happens, please!

My boy was in a similar condition, the vet wrote 2 pages of reasons not to buy him inc laminitis, lame on 3 legs, thick in the wind, varicous(sic) veins, cellulite/obesity, awful ridged, club feet, badly worn teeth from wood chewing, couldnt canter on one rein, bolted in trotting up, etc etc then told me i had to buy him...so i did! he was worth every penny and its amazing how quickly they turn around with lots of tlc.

I guess ecause why did they waste money lining the pockets of a vet when the problems were visible anyway? I have never had any of my horses vetted ...

You could always spirit him away !!!!!! Now where is that pony, he's escaped hasn't he.

Thank you for all your nice comments. I think no matter what the yard offer she will not sell to any of us. We will keep the pressure up to get her to sell and next time perhaps to advertise him honestly so people with the experience to deal with his problems will view him. He really is the sweetest thing. Sadly this is probably the best home he's had so far by the sounds of it.
You never know what may happen, there's a teenager locally advertising for a pony to look after, I'm going to pass the advert on, it may prove a match made in heaven (if the stupid girl rings her)

Next time he is advertised get someone from here to go as a stooge and buy him with whatever money you can scrape together........ she would think that she is selling off the yard then...... and you could have the last laugh!!!

If she gets no other offers, then who knows what she would accept.... do you know what she paid for him???
