Yesterday, mum gets a phone call asking if Mickey has been turn out. She replied no because there was still a thick frost and she was concerned with his laminitis. She asked why and his owner say "Oh, well I just wanted you to check X (one of her 2 yr olds) as he was lame on the weekend and I wondered if he was still on his feet!!!
" Mum replies that she had been and broken all the ice on the water troughs despite not putting Mickey out (as she suspected this hadn't been done) and that to her knowledge he was ok but hadn't seen him move so didn't know if he was lame etc. She also informs M's owner that the water is very low!
Go up this am at 9am to do Till's but leave Micks in as the ground is still frosty, break all ice on water etc for M and T and to see if M's owner has been up to break her other horses ice - NO! BUT THERE IS NO WATER! None in the bath and an inch of muddy sludgy stuff in the trough!!!
I also make an effort to check over her 2 yr old who is lame, which he is - if it was my horse he'd be in, bandaged and probably have seen the vet by now! AND her other 2 yr old is also hopping on both front feet
Send her a message saying as much and go home as perhaps she hadn't been up yet. Then go back up at 11.30 to turn M out and there is still NO WATER!!
Have just got back - no one has been in the tackroom since me this morning, the water troughs are still empty and the pipes are frozen at the yard so I couldn't refil them and both youngsters are unsound and stood in a field looking very sorry for themselves. All 4 are plastered in truely awful rainscald (I thought they had it bad last year....) and looking at them they also have fairly bad mudfever!
I am fuming! They are NOT MY horses, NOT mum's responsibility and they are in a terrible state!! Grrrr!
