Ahhh some people never cease to amaze me. Went up this evening to get my daughters pony in, she was with me. Our field is at the top of a hill theres a track about a cars width fenced off at the side of the cows field which is used to get up and down it. Got in her little pony, and as i was coming out the gate another lady was just coming up to get hers. So my daughter and i starting walking down and they next thing her 17hh draught type is right behind us trying to overtake. Shed let it out without a headcollar so she could 2 in at the same time!!!!! It nearly mowed down my daughter, i was so angry then as she was trying to catch it nearly knocked my little 11.2 over with the other 17h horse!! I was like dont you think thats stupid you nearly knocked over my daughter and she said, its the only way i can bring them both in together and im not coming up here in there dark twice!!!!

But its ok to nearly mow us down, the horse is a div aswell it would run over you and can be very handy with its back legs!!! Nice!!!

Sounds like an accident waiting to happen? But I don't understand, if the track is a car's width why couldn't she have led them both in headcollars? Surely they both would have fit?

Yer she could lead them down but not get them through the gate! So she just let him loose and expected him to wait!!! I was really angry, if she cant get them both in safely get one in and go back for the other!!

thats awful, surely she can get both out of the gate at the same time?....how does she think those with livery yards and with 2 or more horses manage?.....I used to take and bring in my two together no problems...
Dont understand her logic in letting them run loose aswell as being dangerous and rude it's also allowing and teaching said horse's bad manners...

Glad your daughter and pony are OK though....sounds like a lucky escape

Ah i know, silly woman. And its not even like the one she let free is particually quiet its not the easiest horse at all. I was quite angry and said so too, but she just stormed off, its not the first time horses have been let to come down on there own!! So think im gonna have a word with the YO tommorw she wont be happy and will address it instanly. I dont like tellign tales but thats just plain stupidity!!!!

Sorry but it's not about telling tales. What if your daughter had been mowed down by said horse, you would have been straight round to YO after bopping the other womans face. There is no excuse for bad manners or horsemanship

So agree Echo - there is no excuse for bad manners or bad horsemanship and Im sorry if that had been my daughter that womans nose would be flat now - Accidents happen and sometimes can not be avoided but that was pure stupidity that could have resulted in a very very nasty accident to your daughter you or your pony - tell your yard owner and ask her to have a quiet word - if she hasnt time to bring 2 horses in either together correctly or seperatly dont have 2 horses - jesus my blood pressure is going up :) I feel a rant coming on :)

Oh i know, i try not to go whinging but this was absolutly ridiculas, it wasnt even like she didnt know wed just gone down. Silly thing was if she knew she was going to have trouble i would have helped her, my daughter is plenty capable of leading her pony, but i was trying to hurry as daugter is poorly!!!! I try really hard with my little girl not to be a nuissance as i know not all people want a child round them and certainly not running round a stables screaming, but she was as entitled to getting her pony in and walking down holding my hand. She was just plain out of order. Im still fuming now!!

We had a problem like this last year.

there's a girl on our yard with 2 horses., a very old tb and a yound obnoxious wb x. She basically does nothing with her horses and in the summer when they're out 24/7 just looks over the fence at them. When it came to bringing them in at night for the winter she had to lead them up through another field (empty but next to another field of horses), past the school and into the yard.

Her horses wouldn't lead nicely, so she started just opening the gate and letting them gallop up to the yard! Regardless of the one horse that wasn't hers left in the field, the horses in the field next to it and anyone trying to poss lead a horse in from that field or anyone trying to ride in the school!! One night she did it as someone was trying to bring their horse in from the field next door (happened to be the horse I compete so I ended up being the one having to deal with him when his loaner couldn't) and I totally ERRUPTED! I told her that her actions were going to cuase someone or a horse to get hurt and her reply was well my horses won't behave when I lead them and she would get hurt!!! selfish or what! (apart from the fact her letting them gallop up obv made them a lot worse!) Luckily for her the horses moved into the empty field the week after so the problem was sorted. But some people are truely unbelievable!

Zoe hun to talk to YO it is not winging - your daughters safety - and other ppl on yard - is at stake here - as was your own and the pony's. There are lots of children at my yard and I look out for them as well as thier parents - they have to learn and best way is through leading by example - not good one shown in this situation for your daughter. Please please talk quietly to yard owner( though personally my first port of call would have been womans and she would now have a flat nose mmmm prob not right way but hey), explain and ask her to speak to woman - we are only just beginning dark nights and will she do this again - will this lead to your daughter not bringing her pony in again in case this happens in future. - get it sorted hun now and big big hugs to you ok - pm me if want a damn good swearing rant xxxxx

ps known as safety witch(prob worse behind back) on yard he he he he he he seen to many stupid bad accidents over years through stupid stupid people doing daftest of things so now my eyes are everywhere :)

We had some idiot do this at a yard we were at. YO told him in no uncertain terms that if he pulled the same stunt again he would be thrown off the yard immediately. It is a dangerous thing to do when other people are around, especially small children and their ponies. Don't think of it as telling tales OP, think of it as keeping everyone safe.

There are a couple who do this at our yard, despite the fact they've been repeatedly told not to  nothing like almost getting trampled by a 17.2 Selle Francais to get the blood pressure up!

Totally stupid thing to do, but also extremely irresponsible to do it with you and your daughter there! If she can't bring in two horses at the same time (fair enough it's not always possible or safe) then she should walk up and down twice or sell one horse!

There's three up the field where Mo is, two are 'mine' (one is borrowed) and one belongs to another woman who takes turns feeding them with me.

I'm perfectly capable of leading three horses in at the same time WITH HEADCOLLARS. If she can't handle 2, surely she shouldn't have two?

Grr some people are stupid.

I have had two near misses over the past three days.
Firstly horses were in for the day, so on the evening I took my mare into the mares paddock to graze in hand. Next thing I know an owner of a gelding (2 gelding were turned out, they were not supposed to be out) came down to the field told me to get out of my field so she can let the geldings through the mares field up to the mares gate (the paddock set up is that 2 geldings have to go through 2 mares to get to their paddock). Why she didn't just catch them in their field I do not know but she let them gallop into the mares field, charge about for 20 minutes churning up the field (bearing in mind the horses should be in to protect the saturated field). So I had been kicked out of my own field where I was grazing my horse in hand as she had been in the stable all day to allow for two gelding to charge around their paddock.

Yesterday I had put the girls in their stables after being out all day, went down to fill water tubs up (hose not working) and just as I was walking through the gate the two gelding come charging at me (on is an overweight 17.3 and the other a psychotic arab!) so I had to close gate and run. The annoying things is two people went down to catch two horses but instead they decided to let them into the mares paddock to run around before catching them (which took about 10 minutes) thank god the girls were in as the 17.3 has been know to knock horses down (he knocked my old pony to the ground) and the arab is just as bad (kicked, bitten, ripped rugs etc of the same old pony).

Rant over!

ETA: this was the same owner that left the gate to the geldings paddock open last year when my pony was still out as "she couldn't see him" a quick check to see if he was in the stable first wouldn't have hurt!

Well least i know im not the only one with a numpty on the yard. There not actualy both hers ones another livery but this girl quite franckly shouldnt own a horse, she cant even ride it others have to and it just walks all over her.

She did actually apologise and said next time she would make sure there was no where around and i replyed you shouldnt be doing it full stop and i saw other people doing it today. So i will be speaking to the YO as soon as. Had a poorly child today so was in and out asap and didnt see her. Ill go down at lunchtime tommrow when i know she is around.

But apparently another lady that shares getting horses in with other liveries leads 2 down in headcollars and let the 3rd down on its own!!!!! So stupid, i dunno whats worng with them all i never had any problems here before over winter so its a new thing.

Luckily YO is quite good, i expect there be a note in next livery bill and shes the sort that expects it to be done and people do obide as she has chucked off serial rule breakers off before.

You have my empathy - the geldings are owned by two different people and one is exactly as you have described on of your fellow liveries (other livery is lovely). The horse walks all over her, will be 6 in March (same age as my girl) yet the horse is not backed as she's messed that up by tying it up outside the stable and attempting to get on it from the ground on her own and has continued to mess things up!
