I don't have that many picture of me riding my boy but I had a friend over on Sunday who took some nice piccies of us doing some schooling.

Please feel free to critique - I am still relatively "new" to riding - been riding about 3 years now whereas everyone else I know has been riding for around 20 years

Cantering round - canter was always a major problem for me due to a very bad fall the first time I cantered!

Letting him canter with head low

Another canter shot - my friend took the piccie at the perfect time as it looks like he's bucking!!

Any comments welcome!

I think I need to sit up a bit straigher and move my legs back a little - I was riding in jeans that day so I have a bit of an armchair seat!

cute little coloured your position is fine dont worry hun you havent got a bad seat seen as u have only been riding 3 yrs.
Just try and keep ya hands up and shorter reins so he cant get his head between his legs.
Good luck with him hun

Thanks - when we are working correctly I have my hands up and out in front of me but when I warm him up I like to let him stretch as he seems to loosen off better that way although it makes me look massive on him!!!

Hiya, he is lovely! You're doing well to sit up in the canter piccies with his nose on the ground lol! Is he young? Personally i would be wary of letting him canter with his head so low as he looks to be very much on the forehand and he is much more likely to take a stumble. Maybe just the pic though!

my only critique is may be push your saddle back an inch. Also echo keep hands up and reins shourter, your hands look a little fixed.

Your leg position is fine!

Youre doing well considering you lack experience.

Just a small tip- I wouldnt work him low like that- you can see how on his forehand he is in those canter pics and it wont be doing him any favours. Stretching his nose forward like in the 2nd trot pic is good but I'd not let him go so far down!

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I do have a bad habit of leaving my saddle slightly too far forward!

As for the stretching - I'll try and cut that out! He is still a youngster (just turned 6) and he loves to have a good stretch to help him loosen off but sometimes he can really lean on you so I try to give him short breaks on a long rein to stop him doing it when I'm working.

You look fab on him, great leg position and you look to have a fairly secure seat. My instructor alway told me to warm up on a really long rein in walk, trot and canter. It's great to see him stretching down like that in canter, he must be nice and supple through his back and he looks to be really using his back end. If you've been told to warm up on a long rein keep it up
