Some pictures of Hannah's bottom (and a strange question)

Someone asked to see pictures of Hannah's bottom... so here they are

She is a bit restless tonight, but still no wax or milk running so I just think she does not know what to do with herself at the moment. I still think she has a few days to go yet (hopefully) but I am expecting her to prove me very wrong and come either tonight or in many weeks time

STRANGE QUESTION: She smells very strange around her udder area, sort of waxy sort of smell which I have never noticed before. Her udders and around them are very warm and I was wondering whether it was because they were warm that they smelled like this???

You crue crue person... I read *Some pictures of hannah's...* rushed look when got full name! Was hoping as your late on line you were busy taking foalie photos... Spose arss ones will have to do...
 
There are always exceptions, but she would look poor because the muscles have slackened so much. If they can catch you out they will. Some mares don't even wax up, or may wax up on one foaling & not a next. Sas had shown no signs when she was turned out in the morning, though I was expecting it in the next few days, yet at 4pm there he was!!
 
To me she is looking really poor... her back has completely dipped down which it never usually is, you can see her spine and you can never usually see where the hip joins the spine, but that is sticking up quite a bit. Also her withers are really accentuated, and she is usually quite a flat withered horse.
 
Hi matey. Dont know about the smell thing, but, watch that bottom slacken loads more still. Her tail will litterally look like it's sitting on top of her if you get what I mean? She still looks fab though!
 
I'd expect some more slackening of her bum too if she was imminent but a little mare on our yard gave no such signs when she sneaked her baby out last month!

I can't answer your strange question but must say how lovely and shiny she is, and how nice it is that you still "do her hair" - nice pulled mane!

Thanks honey... Hannah has always had a very well covered and muscley bum. Even now it is lovely and round, think it is her breeding! I don't think hers will go quite that obvious but I have more of an idea of what I am looking for now.
 
Hi Hannah,
The bagging up is one of the most obvious sign that things are happening, they should begin to fill 3-6 weeks before birth. They are fully bagged up a few days before. When I noticed my mares bag was solid, it was warm with her teeties sticking out like pistons. The waxing is a formation of of little drops of the special early milk known as colostrum. I`m sure that you know this tho.
If she starts to run milk, then you can be sure that the babe is on its way.
Her muscles and ligaments around the loins and hindquarters will go very soft, and also around the vulva will relax and slacken so as to allow a soft wide opening for the foal`s exit.
The lips of the vulva will also soften and the dividing line lengthens, they are easy to open when parted by you. If you fancy doing this!

You should also notice that the belly will `drop`.
You probably know all this, but I thought I`d write just in case.
Good luck. It will most likely happen when you are not looking. I used to work at a stud farm, and you can guarantee, if they look like nothing is happening, we`d go in for a cuppa, then come out and have a new addition.

Amber looked quite poor before giving birth- all her mucles were relaxed and the foalie was pulling her belly down so you could see the spine.

She didnt really wax up yesterday, but she had tiny amounts of blood leaking which is a sign of her getting ready. All mares are different but appaertly that is a sure sign foaling is imminent.

I didnt notice a waxy smell, but her udders were warm and hard. The waxy smell could be Hannah's milk dripping perhaps, if that makes sense?

Hannah is looking great.
 
Thanks... the udders are a grey sort of colour tonight but no wax on the ends yet. Her back looks to have completely sunk through the day today, she looks like an old nag at the moment, not like my pony at all

The smell is really weird... it's like a waxy strange smell. After I had felt her udders last night, I went to do Grace's rug and she really snorted at my hands and went very strange.
 
Exactly like that... It reminds me of an Italian restaurant that has the wax on the candles. It's that sort of smell.

She just snorted but then wanted to keep smelling it which was a pain because I was trying to get the hood up on her rug

Horses are funny how they go crazy around babies - I remember when YO's daughter's mare had her foal, she went into her stable as usual that night and then when she was allowed out into the field the day after she was born the whole yard went completely nuts because all of a sudden Filly had a little filly with her! It was crazy!
Must just be baby smells, I bet Grace is as excited as you are now!

When my mare was close her udders got very firm. She also leaked a hell of alot of wax, which gave her the waxy smell that you are on about! The only thing was she stayed like this for a week before popping, the stud owner had said that because of the weather he hadn't had a foal in a week and they were waiting for the right moment. By the time the foal came, she was well over 2 weeks over due!
