Just some general questions on phrases, what they mean, etc, as I start to learn a new "lingo" for horses in the UK ( so true that the USA and UK are separated by a common language!) When a horse is described as "good to do"-- what exactly does that mean? My sense is that it means the horse is easy to handle, for the every day sorts of things you would have to do on the ground, i.e. catch, clean hooves, groom, clip, etc. Is that even close to right?

I am fascinated but very unclued in about hunting. When does the season run, what do you do if you would be interested in riding with a local hunt-- i.e., who to contact? What are the rules for what to wear, how to equip your horse?

Any info gratefully received! :o

Do you mean "good doer"? That means it's prone to get fat and doesn't need to eat an enormous amount in order to gain weight.

hi! Yes you are right at 'good to do' means good manners when being looked after / handled. Re hunting - I have only been a couple of times but I found the Hunting Forum on here very helpful - there is a sticky about first time hunting, and also if you find your local hunt they may have a website where they will have info about what to do (I hunt with bloodhounds so they do, though perhaps foxhounds have to be more circumspect). You could try posting on Hunting Forum on here. Good luck & enjoy! :)
