Hello everyone!
As I mainly post in here I thought I'd share some photos with you all and I will let you rate my plaits - HOT or NOT! lol
First a few randoms... jumping the Charmeleon from a while ago...
Ooh I like this but it's very poor quality (ggrr)

I cannot even tell you how disappointed I am at how this photo came out because this jump was bloody massive for the Charmeleon (doesn't really do jumping... he can't really see the point because the jumps will move out of the way if you just canter on! lol

) - Seriously those plastic wing things are like 5 ft tall and it was 2 from the top one side! I suppose I will have a big orange heffa lump that makes it look like a teeny twig!!

Okaay... this is me riding George, he was here for schooling a while ago! He's really nice! (Bit of pony squishing going on but think he'll live, just about - he's 15.2/3hh)

Annd on Weds the Charmeleon thought it would be fun to slice his foot open (the side of his fetlock and his heel)

Any tips / remedies welcome! He's not lame - TBH I don't think he has noticed yet - give him a week - lol!

OKAY, now I have been accused of going overboard on the rosette style plaits... so what do we think... HOT or NOT?! PLEASE NOTE THESE PHOTOS WERE TAKEN AFTER THE SHOW SO HAD BEEN SUBJECT TO SCRUBBING ON HAYNET ETC!

Lovely pics and horses, but im not to keen on those plaits - a little large for my liking, but thats just me i love little ones, i think they look smarter

Lovely pics! Not liking the plaits though... they are HUMUNGOUS!!

Tone them down and I think you'll be ok

But then I like lots of teeny tiny ones..

I have those jump wings

Im sure they make jumps seem bigger than they are. I can only get that height to measure 3foot3, which it seems far bigger than

Have a Mini Ginger, this is a whole cup smaller both sides, excuse the postition, I blame dodgey takeoff

I think the plaits are a little too big TBH, the number is OK, just less 'puffy' would look better IMO.

I saw Matt Frosts Fly Away Wish with mahoosive ones in last year and I thought they looked ubber cool - I'm too impressionable!!

Now are they actually a real no go... or do u all mean I just need more practice?!?!

For hooded plaits they are good, however just get them a little bit tighter if that makes sense!

I have a funny feeling some of the dresage queens on here will love them as they are really trendy in the dressage world atm aren't they

You've been unlucky enough to attract a load of us eventing types who are frightfully introverted and prefer our teeny, tiny, understated hardly-there-really plaits

StinkerStonkersMum - I know exactly what you mean!! I find it really difficult because I have to plait a totally different way than I am used to - but as he's resting his foot atm - plenty of time to practice!!

TableDancer - Thankyou! You eventing people always look very smart, I have to admit... but just think how beneficial all that extra mane would be to grab hold of ?? ... tempted

Too big for me, but very nice and neat... if thats not a contradiction

Maybe half as many again would look good..... It does give the horse a bit more neck plaited that way

Personally I don't like the plaits - although my mare has over 24 in atm!

Personally I would do twice as many... ... ... but then again I am an eventer!

My horse has done the same thing to his foot. I have just kept hibiscrubbing it clean and then putting cream etc over to keep dirt out.
Mine isnt lame either and is now healing up nicely

And I not keen on plaits sorry, I like them smaller. But you done a good job I couldnt do any like that.

I like the plaits, they're very neat......... I've noticed that Mr Hester has been sporting plaits like that lately, and if they're good enough for him

I do them like that on my 2yo for showing (although not quite as big!) as they improve her top line. Also, less plaits takes less time, which can only be a good thing IMO at 4am before a show

re plaits - i wouldn't do them for eventing but they are quite smart for dressage. And i bet they don't take long LOL! jumptoit - how long does it take to do 24??? - and the shoulder-ache - aaaarrrgghh!!

how do you do the big ones?

I normally do tone them down if I'm doing my OH's horses like this:

To do the big rosette plaits you have to take a big chunk of mane (obv - maybe not quite as much as I did there) then, plait the top loosely pushing the plait upwards *it is important that you pass the hairs on top of each other - not underneath (which I find easier - doh)* once you have the top set quite loose do the rest of the plait as tight as possible, secure with a band. Then you need to use thread and wrap round the band and basically fold/roll the plait as many times as you need to get it really round - securing each fold/roll as you go, then pass the thread through the middle of the finished plait to secure and knot then snip!
It sounds like a lot but it is SOOOO much faster than doing 24 -

I don't like the lookbut they might be better for the horse - i think tight plaits must pull and restrict the movement a tiny bit.
