I know. He shakes his head up and down when you go to put a rug on as if to say "NOOO!"
A friend's Welsh D mare used to be naked in the morning with a fully intact, all buckles still done up rug lying abandoned somewhere in the field. In the end my friend and the mare came to an agreement whereby my friend would put the rug on when the mare dragged it off the rail (open fronted shelter) meaning that she wanted the rug on and that it would stay on :). I loved that mare, she was worth her weight in gold and looked after all her riders

I love this story!

Sometimes I would listen to him when he nodded his head up and down and wouldn't rug him.
But if I knew better than him (and had seen the forecast for that night and he'd missed it ;) ) then I would rug him.

Depending on what coat he grows, he may not need them in the winter either now he’s retired and living out. My TB was rugged to the nines when in work, with a duvet under a heavyweight. Once retired, all she needed was a rain sheet if it was particularly wet. Grew a thicker coat, kept her condition, was a different horse!
