Somebody is hacking me off.

As we are all perfect on here, it can't be you ;)

My daily dog walk is normally a relaxing interlude in my day.

Due to the closing of the car parks of the popular river walks, the great unwashed have taken to walking in the nearby, normally quiet, woodland where I walk. That's okay, I can share.

But one or more of the interlopers is p1ssing me off. There is a daily increase of abandoned poo bags and now, to top it off, there are discarded wipes.

If you should happen to be reading this post and you are that person, if I see you, be warned, I am not shy.

I was walking though my usual wooded area on bank holiday Monday, and 99.9% of dog owners were amazing, dogs were either on leads or the type that did nothing but walk round their owner and sniff a bit, and as soon as the owner saw anyone else had an immediate recall and clipped back on. Then we meet the one that always ruins it, the lady with two pugs off lead, being screamed at to come here, don't you dare, here, of course the two pugs took no notice whatsoever and the poor gent with the bull terrier on the lead had to pick up a stick. His dog stood its ground and he called out, can you call your dogs off please. I must admit i felt sick as the two pugs just missed getting either whacked with the stick or bit. The dozy lady said - oh sorry they are only playing they are ever so friendly..... yes but maybe his dog is not and you have two running at him. She managed to clip them back on and then declared to her puggies that once they were away from the silly man they would be back free. Really - if your dog does not recall do not let them off the lead.

As of Easter weekend the local farmer by us put up lots of garish signs warning people off trespassing and even a “beware of the bull” one (on a ploughed field about to be drilled ? made me laugh, I suppose if people are that ignorant they will believe it!). I’m guessing that people straying from the public footpaths must have been causing lots of issues.

There are dollops of dog crap all along the footpaths, and in the livestock fields which of course can be dangerous for the stock. Sheep have been moved into the next field and I‘m not surprised - I’d have been getting very nervous with all the idiots and their dogs out and about, if they were mine. Most of these people venturing into the countryside don’t even seem to know which side of the road to walk on when on a lane with no footpath; people also keep leaving the gates on the public footpaths open.
If anything, this lockdown is making me hate people even more than usual ?

I dont know how people do it. Aside from being Inconsiderate (which they obviously don't care about), I have mine on a lead 99% of the time, and a tracker on him, and I still worry about him getting lost as his recall is so rubbish ?

I'm surprised by how reasonable everyone around here is, admittedly I've avoided the canal for walks (it seems quiet though from my garden) but the Easter weekend was deserted and haven't seen much increase in unpicked poops.

what is starting to get to me is the disgarded gloves and masks all over my local park which is close to my home. Added to this is the filled poop bags and poop not in bags. Its far dirtier than it normally is.

the masks and gloves are really getting to me though, why bother wearing them if you are just gonna take them off and throw them on the ground???

I saw my first family out cycling today, all wearing black masks .....they were in a wooded country park which is popular with walkers and cyclists but hardly busy. Made me wonder how you get your small children to wear a mask let alone why you would ! All had blue plastic gloves on too

Feeling your pain and angst OP (and everyone else). Coz I am sick - to the back teeth - of the plague of people who have invaded the quiet country lanes around my part of Devon and particularly outside my place.

Not content with the usual plague of lycra-clad and ignorant-as-sh!t cyclists who come up behind you like Creeping Jesus without warning - it matters not whether you're riding or walking - we now have the sanctimonious born-again joggers preaching their keep-fit gospel and breathing the breath of god over everyone in the narrow lanes; plus the screaming batallions of spoilt brats ("ohhh look mummy there's a nice horsey in the field ......" FFS). Then there's the league of miserable-old-git-pole-walkers that you come across marching down the road like a battalion of Roman Legionnairies; and there's you with your youngster thinking oh Christ, and they're soooh flaming ignorant they just won't pull in out of the way for you.

Then, not being content with that, there's every poor dog from the nearby village being walked to death outside in my lane - and the resulting piles of "dung" everywhere, coz no-one thinks to bring a poo-bag out with them; and even if they did they'd leave it for someone else to pick up. A lot of farmers this year have had sheep worrying by dogs like Little Fido and his friend Little Freddie, who would never ever chase after a sheep, ohh noohh..

Jeez........ gimme strength.

My 11 month old is always on a lead as recall is rubbish (over aroused most of the time so just 'cannot hear me', todays mugging by a young retriever walked off lead by a middle aged woman was particularly insistent and ongoing and after a while I had to ask her to recall her dog, oh she says, well if you just ask your dog to sit still (bearing in mind this retriever is on top of my little collie) mine will get bored and come away..... just no words really

The only person I saw today was a cyclist, who dinged with plenty of time for me to move to one side and hook a finger in the dog's collar. We both said thank you to each other at the same time and exchanged a grin, probably because it's the most courteous encounter either of us have had recently. Almost no crap or bags left about either.

The difference today is that I walked to somewhere that people normally drive to, but with the National Trust car parks closed nobody seems bothered to walk there from town. It's maybe 2.5k along a pleasant, leafy lane, though admittedly uphill for most of that. You're rewarded with stunning views and a vast empty woodland (and of course a downhill stroll home).

Instead, the horrid little park in town is full. Madness! Do people have no imagination?!

I've been taking mine to a nature trail that is a five minute drive from home. I would love to be able to walk there but roads aren't safe for walking. So far the only other people I've seen are in their cars doing whatever. The basketball and tennis courts are closed, the soccer/ American football field is closed as are the baseball fields. The park where we trained tracking yesterday was very busy on the other hand. People were walking and the employees were mowing grass and people were fishing. Fishing is allowed in my state. Most people have been good about picking up but my tracking buddy almost stepped in a pile. I'm glad I was at least 6 feet away.
Totally off subject, Dr. Phil is on the TV talking to people who have been fired for whistle blowing about unsafe working conditions. It makes me want to not use Amazon.

You know what really pisses me off? (Apart from the complete fruit loops who can’t recall their untrained mutts) It’s the absolute idiots who throw a ball right at my dog when I’m really obviously mid-training!! I don’t want the whole park, I’m seriously trying to shrink into a corner so bugger off with your intrusive Dalmatian and your smiley ‘Oh, he’s just playing’. If I had a quid for every time I’d heard that, I would have at least £30-this year alone!

I couldn't have put it better myself! :):) I am not walking my young dog outside home any more - because of the number of people who are allowing their idiot dogs to run freely down the now largely un-trafficked lanes. I had a huge malamute type thing running up our track the other day which sent my dogs bananas though thankfully I was able to grab Red and my old girl Bess was behind a gate. The daft owners commented on how lovely it all was, what beautiful horses etc whilst I grappled with a wildly over-excited Red (strange dogs just don't visit usually though friends dogs do and are greeted appropriately!). Gawd.

I really feel for people cooped up and desperate to get out but where did all these folk come from??? I never see them usually, we are quite remote, if they live locally then what do they usually do with their dogs??? To be fair, it is only the odd one that is causing me any angst but I am unnerved by how many strangers with dogs I am seeing. And I wish they would stop looking at my weeds....

I wonder how many of these dogs will never be walked again after the lockdown because they never were before !
Im amazed at the number of strange dogs being walked on our housing estate, having lived here for a very long time you get to know all the local walkers and their dogs. A lot of them are pulling like trains too, excited to be out

I would have been sorely tempted to say come and get him or he gets a boot from me. Big dogs can do a lot of damage to smaller ones just by jumping on them.

I so wish that I had met you yesterday or indeed any day. I slow down and ding my bell in plenty of time and always say thank you as I pass. Very rarely do I get a response so I recall the uplifting reply from an approx 3 year old last year who trilled back "You're welcome" Yesterday I received not one response to my thank yous. Even from small groups where you would like at least one person to muster a response. It is currently harder to deal with because just one response would make my day in yet another day devoid of human contact.

I know those feels Arzada as I am often the cyclist in the scenario too, and because I bike with a dog(s) it's an obvious performance to slow down or stop as appropriate, call the dogs to one side and wait for people to pass, then set off again. Still don't often get a thank you!

We have been plagued by off-lead terrors everywhere else. I got my legs scratched by a cockapoo last week because it jumped up at me repeatedly and I was wearing shorts. I'd already called my dog in, clipped a lead on and called out to ask them to keep their dog away when it was obvious they weren't going to extend the same courtesy. It got, erm, pushed away with a foot. :p

I was the bad person with an out of control dog a couple of days ago. There's a field behind my house and I've never seen anyone in it before, so I've been using it for mini recall practices. The puppy is 4 months old and generally never strays too far from me. On this particular occasion however, he wasn't feeling the love for a walk, so he was sitting stubbornly as I walked on calling him. He got up to follow me reluctantly but then another lady with a barking dog arrived and he decided that was more interesting. I managed to get him to stop and sit around 20 feet away from lady and yapper, but still was embarrassed and apologised profusely. She just smiled.

My pup then sat at my side as she walked past with her dog on the lead. She didn't say a word, but decided to let her dog lunge at my dog, yapping right in his face. I said my dog hadn't met many dogs before so please don't let it come up to us, but to no avail. Anyway, I took my dog away rather than let the other one continue to bark in his face and jump on him. I don't know why she had to walk that close to us anyway; there was plenty of space to avoid us once I'd secured my dog! So I think we were as bad as each other.

lesson learnt though - recall practice on a lunge line from now on!
