In this post you will find a pic of my boy all clipped out http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/sh...rue#Post5303624

My guys are covered in mud, there is surface water all over the field and his feathers are just disgusting, this is beyond pig oil and sulphur.
I can hear the bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing of the clippers now SOMEBODY STOP ME please please. I know I want a hairy cob back but right now those feathers are doing my head in. Thank you for putting up with my stupidity in this post

Have you tried using tubigrip over his feathers? get the right size though, it breathes but would perhaps keep them contained/clean?

Hes on 24hr turn out in this field so doesnt really get out of the wet. I considered some straw around them and then make a tube out of some old tights.......not sure how this would work. I dont want him then having wet soggy straw and tights sticking to him. Although tubigrip is more durable than tights........hmmmm I might pop in boots on my way home tomo

I had a similar thing, a very hairy cob that I had to clip due to a mite problem. I was really worried about him looking daft when clipped, but he actually looks really nice clipped out. I'm pleased I did it now.
The good thing about the hairy is that it grows back quickly, so if you did clip it'd soon be back anyway!
Go for it!
