A friend has gone down her yard today to see someone has cut half her horses tail off! this is a small private yard so no other liverys. There was a break in where alot of tack was stollen further down the road now this. I think travellers are making there way through up to appleby ( im not acusing them but their no angels! particularly round this neck of the woods) has anyone ever heard of this happening? is it just someone wishing to upset people or a form of marking? there was another horse but it was not touched. the police have been informed

I thought Appleby was last weekend, why would they be going up yesterday/today?

Is she sure she hasn't fallen out with somebody?
A kid did this to one of her 'friends' horse many years ago after they'd had a falling out.

Someone once cut my Welsh sec C's mane off during a very sucessful showing season

The're are some nasty, spiteful people out there, look like your friend has been a victim of some.
I hope she's reported this to the Police

yes first thing she did was report it to the police. i didnt think appleby had been yet. i knew they were all on there way up there. They usually start to go up 3 weeks before. we have some rather young mischeivious travelers around here that like to cause abit of havock. bless them!

That's horrible! I agree sounds like someone she might know thats fallen out with her and wanted to do something horrible. No need to take it out on the poor horse.
Worth checking all the security around the yard and make people that are close by aware so they can keep their eyes peeled in case anything else happens, fingers crossed it doesn't.

There was a poster on here recently that had the tails of her show ponies cut off. Think that was a grudge attack....
Bloody awful either way!

maybe theyre leaving appleby..i know when the gypsys find a hose they like they do things to the horses mane and tails like in the mains they will put a tight braid/plait under the horses mane and then another gypsy comes into the yard feels under the mane and then knows which horse the other gypsy wants. could be this but ive never heard of half a tail being chopped off :/

I havent been at my yard too long, but in the few weeks of being there, someone had pulled their show-horses mane (very very quiet place, everyone had been there years, i was the first newbie in a long time!)

And another 2 peoples horses had what appeared to be burns, small circles on the back of their legs, their legs had swollen but the horses were not lame. All happened overnight, we are right by the river so a very common place for travellers and/or teenagers!

Has it defintely been cut? Was your friend's horse out with the other one? The only reason I ask is that a horse I knew had it's tail munched by it's fieldmate one night, leaving it with just 10 inches of tail! At least the same woman owned both horses, so she couldn't blame anyone else!

I'll second that! Olly's tail was eaten by a haflinger yearling summer before last, I was not amused

its a perfect straight cut and not the whole tail either, the top half has been cut above half and the rest left, very bizzare! deffinatly done by hand. very precise.
