Somebody went out hacking out on the toll rides without a hat band and gave my name when they got caught. Information was then given to my yard owner who was not happy with me to say the least! Its emerged that when they were caught they were with someone else who gave a fake name as well, Another livery at our yard. Well it turns out when they were caught, bud was with the farrier and the other fake name given from our yard was at a college interview with her son. We've had our toll access locked. Even though we have toll bands! I'm so angry. No hacking because someone blatantly lied, didn't just give a made up name. Gave 2 names and got a whole yards hacking stopped! I don't think £13.50 a month is unreasonable for trot routes so get a band and come forward so we can hack our ponies!

We have not had that happen, but our local TROT in Warwickshire is on the verge is closing due to the amount of abuse it is receiving.

We used it last weekend and met 4 horses with no hat bands.

cant you go and see the person who monitors the rides and show them you are who you are and not the person who lied and gave your name instead?
(does this even make sense?) you may get your routes back open then!!

Can you get your farrier to speak to the toll ride coordinator or sign a declaration to say that your horse was being shod at the time so couldn't have been you.

Farrier is up next week so is going to speak to toll manager, toll manager should know my horse seeing as his house is opposite my horses field and has a chat with me when I'm going out for a ride. He left a note through the tack room door this morning. Hopefully we'll see him tomorrow to have a word. Guessing he doesn't know my name. Just horses and dogs. It makes perfect sense tandg. Why couldn't they just give a made up name if they're too cowardly to give their own? They lock our toll access when they're doing work on it sometimes and lock it if the hunt are coming up that day until they arrive. We've never had it locked for not having toll bands before!

Toll rides off road trust. Hacking with no roads for miles! To pay for its maintenance, users buy a trot pass which is a yellow hat band with trot and then a unique number on. It doesn't restrict you to just trots near you. You can go out elsewhere with it if it's a trot ride. We are extremely lucky at our yard as we have direct access so no roadwork at all. Quite handy as if we want to go to a clear round or local show at the equine college we can hack there across the trot rides. They're really lovely rides by us and I often go out for about 2 hours without touching the same track twice, bar the entrance to them!

I was gona ask what you where talking about as not heard of them before
Will check out the link now, thanks ;)

Im sure you can get this sorted easily, be upfront and confident, you have nothing to hide and have done nothing wrong.

When I lived in Scotland I was very involved with Access and raised funds for such things as horse gates and way marked routes. However, SUSTRANS who spent a great deal of time in the Scottish Parliament managed to get funding for thousands of miles of 'free' cycle routes - free to cyclists but not of course to tax payers. Before the Land Reform ACt they actually took well used riding routes and banned horses!!

I still get very cross when I read that riders have to pay for what cyclists get for free. I hope you get very good value for money.

Grrr indeed! And cheeky too. Why not get a day band if you want to try it! We have a local TROT ride...... Only caught one or two people over the years as we are very deligant about it. Ask for a key( or the number for the combination) TROT should freeze your membership if they have closed the rude.m

Have to send my band back for membership to be frozen unfortunately. And if it's sorted im then without it until it's back. Hopefully I'll catch the guy that watches them tomorrow and just say I hear I was out Wednesday afternoon without my trot band when bud was having his feet done? I'll then give my name. He knows I have a band. Ive seen him and stopped to have a chat with it on so often. Especially when his black lab comes bounding over to try and join me and my collie on our hacks and we all wander back to him. He's never used my name. Always bud and roxy (dogs name). So shouldn't be too hard to get sorted. Just fuming someone was that cheeky.

We had a trot route running through the forest behind our yard, which I took annual membership with, and was disgusted with what we recueved in return. I know hey are a charity and need funding, which 90% of our yard had (others where not allowed in it and yo was fab at policing this). We had constant issues with forestry commission churning up tracks, fallen trees which where never cleared, and log piled dumped across tracks. All these where reported to trot, who said forestry where responsible, who in turn said trot where and no one did anything. I'm sure all areas are not like this but I would not hurry to use them again.

Hmmm that is so cheeky of them! I think TROT is great I love hacking into my local F.C and have no problems with paths etc.. I even spotted our first lot of deer today :D queue one very excited pony!!!

In summer it was great, but we struggled all winter long. It's a great idea, it was jury never worked in our woods unfortunately. When we went out endurancing we rode on trot tracks and they where great.

I read in the Sunday Times one day that the Forestry Commission had received (can't remember the exact sum) but millions of pounds from the EU Commission for Access.

They did not put in a single horse gate, a metre of soft path or a way marked route. When asked what they had done for horse riders, they replied they had provided horse box parking - actually they used the money to put in hard standing for logging lorries and then said horse boxes could park there.

My access group spent two weekends in freezing conditions clearing a soft canter path. We were promised we would have use of it for two years. They closed it for tree abstraction after two months.

The local Pony Trekking Centre used an old railway line for their clients. They paid £500 a year for use of this. Without notice FC moved in and closed this route to take out trees from a plantation - the did not tell the Trekking Centere who were forced to close.

Where did all of this happen? The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.

Other EU member states also received monies for Access. All over France we have local groups who go out and check and way mark routes, with maps, coloured signs with kms on them. These routes are for walkers, riders and cyclists. They are FREE.

Also we have none of the nonsense experienced in the UK where ALL routes have to be friendly to those with wheelchairs or who wish to walk in high heeled shoes. As a result we still have miles of grass!!

Rant over. My petition, which I took to the Scottish Parliament is still on their website.

TROT are not liable for this its the forestry commission who are the landowners. Fraid the charity have to be careful but they do get money. For us unfortunetly our area person rolled over when they met one farmer so we lost all the decent riding. Ride is now in two and horrible farmer spends his time trying to kill us or threated to shoot us. Not exactly a marketable ride so few members and not ridden it for ages.

Rollin, have you got a link to the petition? Might be worth posting it. Lots of people appreciate their hacking and would be empathetic with you over losing yours!

How rude of them...can you not take some ID to the toll coordinator and tell them it wasn't you to have the ban lifted?
Maybe provide the Toll folks with a sheet with your photos on (horse and rider) that you could provide as evidence for future reference? I know it's a faff but could help you if it ever happens again?

I think toll maintenance man will be ok when I see him and talk to him. He always seems rather friendly and has a chat about how bud is, and even asked the other day how he was coping with all this pollen. Was rather impressed he remembered! I'll probably go up with the other livery who had her name given. The 2 that gave it were on a chestnut and a grey. Bud is a chestnut but other livery has a bright bay. So could be a give away! I have no idea who gave my name. The spelling they gave of my surname was wrong anyway. Numptys. Worrying someone knows my full name and using it though!

The rep from our yard (not yo, as she said she was not getting involved in time wasting phone calls) spent hours on the phone trying to contact various people to sort out access and obstructions. We did have a detailed list of dates, incidents and photos which we soon realised was a total waste of time as even at the meeting of fc and trot it was obvious nothing other than an argument was going to happen. It's a shame as the forest is usually, (when not being logged!) beautiful. It does not surprise me in the slightest that nothing has been done with money granted to them.

They didn't give my hat band number. Just my full name and the other livery's full name. Don't have a clue who it is. I only know one person nearby with a chestnut and thats the lady that full loans our troll pony! She has a trot band as we occasionally meet up and hack out on the trot rides together. I can't even memorize my hat band number!
