You're probably sick of hearing about Jack and his injuries, but today he came in with a very swollen near fore, meaning that he has a total of two sound legs left on him :(

He wasn't particularly lame on it although he looked very stiff in general when walking over in the field which is very unlike him.

After some extensive cold hosing, you could see a big soft lump big enough to fit in my hand and movable on his elbow and a few bumps over his DFT/suspensory ligament and one above his knee

I completely give up :(

Don't despair yet !!
Mine is officially now a slug - as she has no good legs, suspensory issues in all four legs and arthritis is one hock. :)

Is she grey too? ;) Sorry to hear that :(

A kick maybe?

He's turned out alone, I wondered if he had trodden on his elbow when getting up or something but that wouldn't explain the rest of his leg :( There was swelling all over before hosing and it had an almost lumpy apearance.
He also had two of the bumps on his hind fetlock  He's not exactly fragile (believe it or not!) and there were no real running about marks in his field so I was thinking a possible allergic reaction or a sting? He wasn't sensitive to being prodded and was happy to trot up which he flat out refuses to do if something is sore :o

No she's a very muddy bay !
Vets optimistic as scans showed no actual damage just soreness and hock responded well to cortisone. Times a healer so fingers crossed yours will come fine soon :)

Definately don't lose hope. We have a 25y old thoroughbred mare (retired) who can injure herself in a padded cell!!! And did so!! 18 months ago when at the vets for major surgery on her tendon. (done whilst teasing a gelding in the next field and then galloped into the fence) Couldn't believe it, but once again she bounced back and is still galloping and bucking on her 3 knackered legs. Two front knees gone to the bone at 14, hind leg half ripped off at this injury, approx 20 bouts of colic in the last 4 years, 3 of which were life threatning and progressive liver failure... No probs to her, still acts and looks like a 5 year old, whilst me... well grey before my time and defo a lot lighter in the wallet area. WHY??? Cos we Luv her..lol

It sounds like she's landed on her feet with you, but you might want to invest in that padded cell, that is a lot of injuries:eek: I hope I can look after mine that well :)

Ha! Ha! Defo, my vets "LOVE ME" obviously, but we will know when she tells us the time has come.... Untill then I just keep on workin to pay the bills..lol AND always carry wound power in my pocket.

do you want to join me in removing their legs and sticking them on wheels? :)

Yes please, it would be much easier, plus in muddy weather they would get stuck and be unable to run? roll? around like hooligans.
