From a racing point of view - There could be many different reasons for intermittent lameness. Young horses working too hard could easily give her sore shins, sore joints, sore feet, sore muscles etc. That will have no long term affect on her life. Does she have splints? If not visable her legs could have been thinking about forming them and making her sore but they backed off of work before they produced something noticeable. Some yards are quick to get in physios to sort out any muscle problems, others arent and just give a week or so off to let things settle. Bare in mind the vet may not have actually seen this horse when it is lame if it was only "off" and not hopping lame and so the yard will probably have given time off and brought back into work when they trotted up sounder. She could have thrown a foot abcess which grumbled on.

To be honest I wouldn't worry. Most of the time "Intermittent lameness" in a young racehorse is just the body not coping with the work being asked of it and they generally aren't head bobbing lame just "off". Usually stiff and shuffly. All sorted out by time.

Amazing, thank you. You’ve put my mind at rest. She does have splints, at her vetting they said they’re fine and causing no problems and shouldn’t cause any problems unless I want to gallop her 5 times a week (or enter a showing class). So, with what you’ve said, it’s starting to make more sense. Hopefully the trainer will come back with something that adds up to what you’ve said and I can breathe a sigh of relief!
