I lost my boy Thomas 3 years ago in September in a freak accident My horse of a life time, and now I have become very protective over my other horse Larry, to the point where I dont want to ride him as I think something awful is going to happen :( Its getting me down as I want to take him jumping at the weekend and I'm frigthened to death something Is going to happen to him I was crying talking to my mom today..

Has anyone felt like this and got over it, I just want to keep him in his stable and wrap him in bubble wrap to keep him safe...

Am I being silly just tell me to get a grip if I am...

It really sounds like are suffering with some serious anxiety there (((HUGS))).

I know this may not be what you are expecting, but I would take the pressure of yourself COMPLETELY for the time being, no jumping or anything, and go have a chat with your GP. You do not have to put yourself through anything until you are ready. Grief is such a horrible thing to try and cope with.

I lost a horse in a freak accident when I was 13, and it took a long time to get over, and I will never have my horse in with a kicker again - that's how I control any risk now xxx

Have a kick up the arse from me. And a load of sympathy - I have the insane paranoia thing going a lot of the time too. Chill - don't rush in to doing anything, just do stuff you enjoy. Horses (for most of us) are a hobby - and that means they're meant to be fun.

That said, if you're like me in any way, getting out and doing it makes all the difference and puts things back in perspective! Just don't rush it...

Go on, get out jumping....

I don't know if it will make you feel any better, but my horse managed to cut his front knee open in his stable while on box rest from having sliced his back leg open  :D Accidents will happen with horses, go on and enjoy them because wrapping them up in stables for safety doesn't work anyway!

Get some help for your anxiety, I used to worry about everything and it does spoil your enjoyment.

As said above horses will have accidents, even in a box, or get colic because they are not moving around enough, so you can not wrap him up, but you do need to take pressure of yourself, have some more instruction to help your confidence.

Just do things you really want to do, plan ahead, think about anything that could be a risk and minimize it, then try to just give it a go. All the best.

Live to regret the things you've done not the things you haven't
You can worry about something all you like but its probably something completely different that will actually go wrong
Here's one kick up arse !
and get a grip but maybe have a talk with GP as it sounds like a bit of post traumatic stress/anxiety sooner you nip it in bud sooner you'l get back to enjoying your horse Good luck.
