After breaking my rib in August jumping, I swore that I would not jump again as I'm too old to be doing that sort of thing as my bones are not what they used to be.

Fast forward to this week which has probably been the sh*****t week of my life and I have to face things this week (and probably for lots of weeks afterwards) due to no fault of my own but to serious cock ups made by others who should know better.

Feeling rubbish, I saw that my local riding club is doing clear round jumping tomorrow and thought that I could do with the adrenaline rush of jumping which hopefully will steel me for these things that I must put up with in these weeks ahead.

I've not jumped since that day in August and am pooing myself about it tomorrow (but am also excited) but we schooled this evening practising canter transitions (cantering from a standstill and a walk too!) and trotting and cantering a 1 1/2' cross rail. LOL, we even did a trot to halt transition for an upcoming prelim test. Hattie loved it and I forgot how big a jump she has! You can set your own height at the show so I'm going to go cross rails on the 1st hole tomorrow (so about 1', I believe that you should jump lower at a show than what you school at home).

Am I mad for breaking my "no jumping" rule at my age? Or is it a good thing mentally for me?

LOL, I'm no Ellen Whitaker and will probably only trot the fences anyways but I feel like such a risk taker!! :D

Go for it, it sounds like you enjoyed your selves today and it was just what you needed.

One condition you must let us know how you get on :D

I think your really courageous, good for you and enjoy yourself. Let us know how you get on, hope you have a great time!!

Go for it. If you can face up to it, the high it will give you will help you to face whatever crappola sandwich life has in store for you next week.

And when you're facing THAT crap, you'll be able to look back at your jumping and think: "I DID that."

Good luck. x

take your time and just enjoy it. the great thing about clear round is that you can take your time and there's no pressure to complete the 'perfect round'

Yep I agree with everyone! You will soon remember the buzz you get off jumping and will want to do it again and again. Just take your time and don't over-face yourself with big fences.
I went through a 'scared of jumping' phase, and said I would ONLY do dressage. Then I bust my arm in the school - some sheep broke into the field next door and stampeded and spooked my horse. I felt so silly for refusing to jump, I had missed out on loads of fun!
