hi all,

a bit of a moan i'm sorry!

i have been looking for a horse for myself for a while now and in July my mum and i went to view a beautiful young mare advertised as 14.3. As soon as we pulled up i knew the measurement was nowhere near! I loved the her immediately but didnt want to buy her becuase i knew she wouldnt grow enough for me to ride her (she is 13.3!). Well, my mum decided to buy her as a present for me! lovely thought, and i absolutely adore her, so i am very grateful but now i have a pony far too small for me to ever be able to ride. yay. what is worse is that i have fallen in love with a horse for sale at the stables where i keep her on livery. he is perfect for me in all ways, except i cant afford to buy him because of all the money i have spend on my girls full livery, vets bills, dentist, tack etc. I couldnt possibly sell her cos she is a part of our family now and is so happy with us! and she will be ridden by my sister eventually(who is only tiny!). but i am gutted that i cant afford to buy the gorgeous clydesdale x gelding i know is right for me!

i know you guys cant advise me what to do, but just needed to get it off my chest. x
 
You must be feeling horrible! What an awful position to be in - I can understand that you don't want to upset your mum and sell her, but you also want to do right by the pony. Maybe it's worth having a one to one chat with your mum?

Just out of interest, how big are you?!

could you not put her out on loan freeing money up for the gorgeous gelding.....? p.s.stop being a spoiled brat!!;):p;)
 
i am faaaar too big at 5'6 and 13 stone!! my mum thought it would encourage me to lose weight! the gelding is a 15.3 clydie x and carries me brilliant!

unfortunately i cant put her out on loan as she is an unbroken youngster! moving her to our paddock next month so will save on livery, but it would still take me a couple of months to save up and im worried he will be sold by then!
 
Even if you do loose, what 2 odd stone? I bet you would prefer to ride a bigger horse? (some people love ponies, personally I like something big and i'm a similar height/weight to you).
Is your mum non horsey? Seems a pretty naive thing for your mum to do (no offence!!) when really what you want is the opposite of what she bought you!!

I would really say all you can do is have a really honest chat with your mum!!

In your position PERSONALLY! i would sell the little pony and buy something more sutiable that you will use and enjoy. Lifes too short and horses are too exspensive to regret and not enjoy!
 
why dont you also have a chat with the owner of the 15.3 gelding. explain your situation to him/her. being honest will be best. it may be they would be happy to wait because they will know you, how you care for horse, and be happy selling to someone they trust and will give their horse a good home. may even consider a loan! you will never know till you ask.
 
Sorry, I think you are being a bit bratty. If you don't want to sell the pony, lose weight & ride it. And if you want a bigger one, be grateful for the fact that you can save up for one in a few months, & afford to keep two. Rather than whinging you can't have a second now. Guessing you are only young, but tbh I wouldn't excuse your moan if you were my 7yr old.
 
OP didn't want the pony in the first place littlelegs as it was too small, and as her mum bought it anyway then she's kind of stuck with a pony she doesn't want because she DOESN'T want to sound like a spoiled brat. And it is a family pony so not her decision to sell.

OP I'd just tell your mum that if you are moving off livery into a field then your filly will need a friend ;)
 
firstly did you not tell your Mum about the height issue when you viewed the pony? Secondly any chance your Mum could approach the person you bought the pony from & explain & see if they would take back - long shot I know but worth a try!

oh dear. its my girl im thinking of. i dont want to break her back! she is a wonderful girl and my sister (who is a much better rider than i am) will be riding her and they will really enjoy each other. it isnt a poor me, but what is better all round!
 
I appreciate you didn't choose the pony, & that right now you may be too big. But considering you say yourself you will only have to wait a few months to buy a second, I think you are over reacting somewhat.

ok fair do's. its just that this horse and my pony get on extremely well (they are at the same yard) and i would love them to be companions where my girl is moving to. obviously i cant afford a second horse but my moan was in an ideal world if i could afford it, both would be perfect as my sister and i would both be able to ride together. i just cant see myself losing 3 stone to be able to ride!
 
I need to loose 3 stone to ride my filly in the future.
It's possible and would be good for my health.
Be happy with your pony and get on a diet. Use her as ano incentive to loose weight, it will give you something to work towards.

I personally can't think of a better reason to loose weight, I'm really looking forward to spring 2013 :)
 
It is do-able you are Young I am not so young am a mum to 2 kids, & weighed 12stone after having my last 2 yrs ago! 18mths later was down to 9.5 stone, roll on arrival of pony for my daughter & couple mths later arival of my ISH & bingo am down to 8stone! All the physical exercise from riding & trapsing across fields has worked wonders! !

Dear lovemylexie, I am writing this post as a self confessed fat person probably more than three times your age. NOW IS THE TIME FOR YOU . This ,today ,is the point that you say to your self ,I WILL BE THAT THIN GIRL ON THIS HORSE. It takes guts ,it takes effort . You can do it if you try.
 
When I was young I had a weight problem and my Mum thought giving "incentives" was a good plan. They didn't work, they just made me feel even worse about myself and very unhappy. :(

I tackled the weight later, as an adult, when I was ready and had resolved the medical problem which caused the gain. I also had therapy to help me though the issues caused by well meaning people telling me to "just diet" and the pressure my well-meaning Mum put me under.

If you can tackle your weight, OP, wonderful, but please do it in a healthy way which feels right for you.

And you don't sound like a brat to me. :)

Can you not afford monthly care or outright cost right now?

If it's outright cost and you know the geldings owner and are riding him and she's happy.... talk to her. Perhaps she'd take a monthly payment or a lwvtb etc etc?
