Someone was VERY rude about my darling Antifaz!!!

Yesterday I took my camera to the yard, determined to get some decent jumping footage of the delectable Ginger Beastie who is for sale.
Someone I know who used to be a Bossy Old Fart student came along and helped with the poles. She saw A calmly jump a 1.30m upright (I very nearly needed a change of joddys after that though!) And a 1.20 oxer and he didn't touch a pole the whole time.
She's looking for a new horse to compete at 1m and over, and today she decided she would like to ride A. I don't know WHAT she did to upset him but he was VERY unsettled and charged at a 2ft upright. My 'acquaintance' started muttering about A not being responsive/being too responsive/ improperly schooled (

) so I hinted quite heavily that her shocking riding was to blame and to prove my point got straight on A, cantered a circle and popped him perfectly calmly over a 90cm upright, an oxer and then the two-stride combination. He was angelic.
Fabian then told me that she used a VERY rude word about Antifaz. Don't you HATE it when people blame the horse rather than accept that they could've had ANYthing to do with a horse's uncharacteristically bad going???????!!!

sounds like a classic case!

You know how great A is really and im sure all the other people who come to view him will see that too

from the pics ive seen on here, he is anything but inproper schooled!
 
I feel it is the horse's responsibility whenever anything goes wrong or badly...but when things go well I know it is down to my superb riding alone.
I am sure many others suffer from their incompetent horse's behaviour as I do....!

I am wondering whether he will be 'unsettled' with any other rider but you, given his history and the work you have done with him. You took him on with problems and a chequered past, and I don't think that these will ever completely leave him. Do other people regularly ride him? If not, then perhaps more people should from now on, if he is to be sold to the right home.

Good job really, she clearly wasn't anywhere near good enough for the little cherub! Why are you not buying him yourself PF? I think he suits you & complements the 'gorgeous one' perfectly, as he is so different to her!

Very good question Caroline. The Former Instructor has ridden him recently and A was absolutely fine although I'm sure he will always carry a bit of 'baggage' from his past and won't be well-behaved with everyone. The Former Instructor is NOT a tidy rider (arms and legs all over the place!) and I was worried this might upset A, but no. BOF's grandson has also ridden A and had no problems at all but I agree it would be a good idea to put as many people as possible on him pre-sale.

I always assume it was me who did something wrong, and I CERTAINLY would if I'd seen him jump the way she did the previous day!!
 
Maybe he's just got used to being ridden 'properly' PF?
You're a far better rider than you give yourself credit for y'know, which is why I was wondering if you were going to be buying him - I think you could do REALLY well tbh!

Not just saying that 'cos i like you either, if I thought you were a poo rider, I wouldn't comment on it at all........but you're not, so I do!

Seriously though, you do look marvellously competent & tidy when riding, most professional & very sympathetic to the horse, a great combination!

Was trying to find some recent pics of you jumping the gorgeous one, got any links?
 
Ahhh but she had to blame the horse - she couldn't POSSIBLY be to blame now could she! Muppet!! I didn't know he was for sale - that's sad!
 
Well, she is obviously unable to laugh at herself for being ceerrrraaapppp so blame the horse that blatantly can jump nicely

The trouble is, by the time she turns the story over in her head a few times she will have eliminated your riding out of the equation and just talk about this badly schooled, unresponsive horse. Grrr

You know, I've never ONCE heard her say "I made a mess of that" or "I rode like a numpty" (had plenty of occasions!) It's ALWAYS been the horse's fault when something has gone wrong, and her wonderful riding when it goes right!!
Ah, never mind; everyone knows she's a crap rider!!!
