Someone's illegally fishing in my river I think. Do I need to report it.

Contact the EA probably Eastern Europeans they are currently clearing the Grand Union Canal and any lakes near their homes and dwellings of fish and swans

Thats another thought HC. I know EE's have been mentioned in the past for problems.

A couple of years ago a childrens charity bought a piece of land and built a lake in it. They then stocked it with fish and the idea was that deprived children from inner cities were brought down for country weekends and to learn to fish.

Last year I think there were big white notices on their gates saying that all their fish had been taken and Eastern Europeans working on the farms got the blame for that. Whether it was them who knows but they were certainly blamed for it.

* Thanks to everyone for their thoughts. I went down to look this morning again and whoever it is has gone to a lot of effort. One part of the river bank has been neatly cut into a little alcove type shape although I can't see anymore branches chopped.

Will make a few calls today and see what happens.

How big is your river? Over a certain size, the EA have a right of access and an 8m easement must be left for them - they can clear this as and when they choose. Clearly it is helpful if they inform the landowner, but as a bit of government, they are just as efficient at doing this as all the other bits of government are!

I'd be quite happy if it was someone formal as at least I know its not strangers tramping round.

It is 'closed season' for fishing at the moment March 15 to June 16th! The fishes are supposed to be breeding hence why they are allowed to swim free! You need to contact your local Water Bailiff and usually the Local Police have their details as the Bailiffs have similar powers to police officers!

The EA (locally not national) are usually helpful! Also your local post office who issues Rod licences may also have the details of the Water Bailiff.

Good luck and hope you can catch the naughty anglers!
