Does anyone have any suggestions for a good camp at Somerford? We thought we were going to be able to go to the one our riding club runs but it's mid week in term time.

I've seen the calendar on Somerford's site but it's hard to tell what each camp offers. We are probably looking for a low level eventing type camp with enough free time to do the fun ride etc. Bonus points if the Dressage trainer is high level (working AM) and/or there is flexibility to mix and match sessions. We're looking to have a nice time more than anything.

Weekends or school holidays are dates that work for us, suggestions welcome 🙏
 
Yes to eventing camp suitable for all levels. Yes to dressage trainer competing at AM. And yes to enough time for farm rides, as we have lessons over 3 days, not 2, so it's a bit more chill, with time for off-horse activities and farm ride. And we are happy to be flexible re lessons, too, but can't guarantee that you can have exactly the lessons you want if they are not the standard 4 offered. But we try!

As well as AmbersEcho's camps, there is 'clinics and camps NW' (search for them on FB) which is focussed on having good instructors for eventing and not 'forced fun' in the evenings. Not so much time for the farm ride as 2 lessons saturday and 2 lessons sunday, but can go round the farm ride on the friday when you arrive if wanted.
 
My daughter and granddaughters go to a Somerford camp every Spring before eventing starts. Always brilliant whatever standard you wish to do.
Now I have to find out if they are Amber’s Echo’s ! 😁🐴
 
I am booked on to a KP one in a couple of months. Communication has been good so far. She says it is for all levels.

I have also gone to the Active Rider ones and Camp Plus. Both are good but the Active Rider ones had better food (BBQ instead of sandwiches) and organised entertainment, that made it better for someone going alone IMO. However, they have stopped doing them under that name, although someone who co-organised has taken them on, but changed the name so I don't know who that now is!!!
 
i went to camp plus’s one last year, and booked on again with them this year! we had a brilliant time, we did the farm ride when we arrived friday afternoon.
 
I went on my 1st camp at Somerford last year and immediately booked 2 more for this year as soon as I got home. It was absolutely brilliant. I even went on my own having never slept in or put a tent up,with a horse I'd only had 5 weeks. Would thoroughly recommend it. I went with YH Equestrian Camps and have booked with Yasmin again for this year. You can find her on Facebook but she is already very full, as are most of the others I follow.

i used to do the active rider ones, and they were pretty good, sad they have given them up
 
We've gone with a Camps & Clinics NW one, just because it suited our circumstances best this time. Aspire is the other one we considered which also looked fab but we can't yet guarantee arriving in time for a Friday lesson.

I believe Active Rider are now Ace camps?

I'd love to do a camp there when I get a new horse. I'm putting money aside for this and also lessons. Went to Sommerford on the day we collected Lari as Y.O's two eventers were being schooled on the x.c course by her rider so we killed two birds with one stone.

The xc course is very impressive AE.
 
I went to a Camp Plus one a few years ago, liked it so much I now go to 2 a year.

The organiser is very nice and accommodating, there’s time for the farm ride and they are flexible with lessons. The trainers are top class and kind. And the food is amazing, it’s all catered - restaurant quality evening meal and sandwiches/sausage rolls/cake buffet etc lunchtime. And very good continental breakfast which is available all morning.

I’d highly recommend!
 
Active Rider are just having time off. This year Lisa is organising her own camps (Ace Horse Camps) so that the customers weren’t campless 😄 I love the Active Rider camps although I haven’t done one for a few years now
 
having just returned from camp, can anyone recommend one that’s a proper cooked breakfast/lunch? i know a few of them do bacon/sausage butties for breakfast, but can’t find which ones!

i’ve had a fab time, but i’ve seen a few with better culinary choices and i want to know who!!😂

OH came with me and enjoyed it, but we’re both the worlds pickiest eaters so we ended up eating off site mostly😂
 
We do a cooked breakfast: bacon or sausage butties and hash browns. Plus toast and fruit. Not a cooked lunch though - sandwiches, salads, crisps n choc bars. Evening meals are healthy but hearty with free fizz. Hope I’m allowed to answer questions without naming the company! Someone tell me to delete if not.

Eland Lodge do camps and catered for me (gluten free, picky and veggie!!) and had full cooked breakfast lunch and dinner, Veronica is an amazing cook

Active Rider always did, and so does the replacement (while AR is on hiatus) Ace horse camps

The one next door to yours was doing cooked breakfasts and cooked lunch - you should have snuck in!
