Anyone ever been to a Somerford Farm camp?
I've been youtubeing videos today and it looks AMAZING!
I have a rising 5 year old who would absolutely love this.
Does anyone know if you can camp there for a weekend when they haven't got a camp on and just do your own thing? Although I'd love it I think camp may be too much for him but would love to do things at my own pace.
 
I took my 4 yo to the camp at somerford, and he loved it. We did the nervous/novice sessions which was just perfect for him. Just very small cross poles, and basic flatwork. We finished off with some xc, which was just playing in the water and a few jumps up and down steps and the odd small log. We are going back this year, he will be 6 this time, I can't wait !
 
Hi there, try active rider camps, Jane walker runs them at somerford and I know she holds a few a year, inc. Novice horse or rider camps. Feedback on face book is amazing. Also the campers are a bunch of nutters...... In a nice way :0)
 
You can book facilities, farm ride etc as an individual. There are some nice places in the area where you can stay, pubs, b&b etc. Give them as ring and ask if it is possible to book a stable, if you went when there was no camp. They would also be able to advise on who is running camps there this year and when.
 
Hi Asha was just wondering who it was ran the camp you did. Facilities there look absolutely amazing but it's just that little bit far to justify a day trip for me (it is doable but I don't have my own box which always makes life awkward) so I'm also wanting to look into camps and the one you went on sounds ideal for me as I'm just wanting to restart jumping after not having done much for a rather long time (lame pony!)
 
This came up on my FB feed and it looked fab. I didn't google the area as assumed it was to far north, but I did think that it looked good enough that I'd love to go for a horsey break with horse and local B&B. But am hopefully off to somewhere in the New Forest this year.
 
I have been to 2 Bobbis Horse Camps now, Sept 2013 and Aug 2014. I can honestly say they are brilliant and brought my confidence on a lot. We stayed in a tent there last time, the facilities are great, showers, electric to dry your hair, washers and driers, all very clean. The horses are stabled the whole time you are there and the prices include their livery, bedding and haylage, and all your food which Bobbis hubbie does and its delicious. The evenings are taken up with a bit of entertainment like Play your Cards Right, we also played a game of Rounders which was hilarious.

You get 2 lessons a day of your choice and are grouped to your ability, everyone is very helpful and friendly. Cant recommend it highly enough. Google Bobbis Horse Camp, her site tells you a lot, shes also on Facebook too. We are off this year to the May one but Im pretty sure the Camps are filling up so dont delay if you want to book in.

It was Bobbi's camp, and they where soooo patient with me. I was rather nervous, coupled with a baby horse could have been a nightmare. But by the end of it we where flying!

I was at the 2013 camp too, which class where you in? Rounders was hilarious

I've booked to go again this year, excited is an understatement !

Sounds fab. Sound as though I won't overdo it by taking a youngster either.

Asha, what you've just described is me to a tee! Nervous of pushing him too far, plus him being young anyway I did worry id over do it by taking him to camp, but it honestly sounds perfect !

It was my first Camp and was in the Nervous Novice Riders section. The flat work lessons were with Liam Fisher. He was until recently my Trainer at home too, he was excellent. When are you going this year?
 
Forgot to say Rounders was just so funny, Liam was so competitive! I couldnt play that as had just had a small operation and had stitches so just sat on a bouncy Spacehopper balancing a vodka and lemonade, I was off the pain killers at that point...but it was fun to watch! Nik Targett is a good laugh too...and a good Trainer
 
My sister and I went on our own not to a camp. We did the farm ride the day we arrived, then hired the show jumps the next morning, XC in the afternoon and then farm ride the final morning before driving home. We stayed in the back of the horsebox and the horses had stables in one of the barns. It was great I just wish it was nearer!

I was in the nervous novice section too! Going in September this year., but with active rider. I didn't have Liam training me though, but there was more than one class I think. Are you going again ?

Yes off to Bobbis Horse Camp at the end of May, last weekend of the month..looking forward to it!

You will love it and the Trainers are brill, esp Nik Targett. Be prepared for it being cold, esp at night. We stayed in a tent in Aug last year and that was fine. People sleep in their trailers, horseboxes, tents. I got a camp bed last year off Ebay, cost £15, like a hammock but on a metal frame, it was fab. I took 2 single bed quilts, one to lay on and one to cover, and a pillow, was toasty. Take some alcoholic drinks for night time, thats when you all get together and get to know one another. Bobbi is very welcoming. The website is helpful and she does send you a what to take/dont forget list, you will need mucking out tools, shavings fork etc. Have fun..!
 
I have been twice on privately organised camps and loved them both. Stayed in horsebox both times. Facilities are excellent. Going again in May this year and can't wait :)
