Ok, so following on from post re Somerford Park Farm Ridehttp://www.somerfordpark.co.uk/page2.asp?pageID=401, it seems a few on here are up for it as well, so thought it might be nice to organise (oh my god what am I doing!) a mini HHO meet and have some fun at the same time. So as their office is shut until tomorrow I thought I would find out from those that are interested in coming on this what day suits most? Once sorted hopefully can book a date and then let everyone know so others can book as well. Ok I'll shut up now as I'm rambling again.......

thought Weekdays might be quieter than weekends? If it's fun and goes well can always do another one later on!

I would be willing to take a holiday day to go a weekday but I think most would be able to go weekend.

What time frame are we looking at, I wouldn't want to go when the weather was still so urrgh.

Perhaps April/may would be climate friendly for a good fun day?

If you need any help organising then just give us a bell, would be happy to help.

Is there not a limit to how many horses can go out together on the ride at the same time though?

Some places do limit numbers in groups, others don't.

Patches would be a nightmare in a large group. No chance I'd be able to hold her.

You edited your reply! LOL

I was going to say we could go around in mini groups if the numbers get too large. At least we could all say "hi" before and after and probably even meet on the way around.

Patches isn't fit enough to canter and gallop the whole way around either. When I've been I've not treated it as a race. I've had a nice quiet hack with some cantering and trotting thrown in to the mix. I don't do racing.....Patches does, hence my problem with holding her. She will, without question bolt if there's a race going on!

Ha, I bottled out last time. Patches got so far and then just started pawing at the water and splashing. I'll swear she wanted to roll in it!!!!

It also came up over my feet so anyone on small horses would need to watch their saddle flaps!

I love the farmride and a meet up would be great (and i still have vouchers to use for it!) but, there's always a but, Shrimp is not good with going out with more than one horse. He just gets het up and can become dangerous (and i rarely say my horse is dangerous) it wouldnt be fair on other people and it would ruin it.

You probabaly would have to wait until at least easter as they wont open it when the ground is wet.

I refuse to go in the river now as my old mare freaked out in it about 4 years ago and I got knocked unconscious for a short while as i dont remember hitting the water, only coming out of it..... Call me a scardy cat but I wont go in it anymore incase that happens again.

Oh gawd.....perhaps a life jacket at the same time!

Would anybody be bringing OH or family friend? My OH would be trucking us over so he could use a buddy!

I'd like to come but agree, mini groups sound a good idea - only time I took Brooklyn on a donation ride, he got v. het up by all the other horses (mind you there were dozens & dozens all haring past us at speed) and wouldn't settle, ended up doing little rears & bucking which was NOT fun. But other times when we've gone on a quiet farm ride with 1 or 2 other horses he is fine.
Can take a day off if it is midweek but not in April - work will be very busy then.

won't go till weather is better especially as some horses aka Sunny struggle if the going is bad, Pidge doesn't care he goes regardless

Would definately split into small groups and also take into account horse and rider preferences as I understand entirely about going in groups with a keen strong horse!
I will give them a ring tomorrow and get some more information, when open for Summer farm ride, advice on whether to go round in 2-3's, how much gap between groups etc etc and really take their advice as I'm new to this

Just thought even if we don't go round en masse it would be nice to go on one day and meet in the flesh some of the other HHO?

I think the jumps are optional, well I hope they are if I am having a chicken s**t day I'll be going round not over them

Jumps are completely optional. I went and jumped one, just to say I had!!!! Picked a tyre fence where the middle tyre seemed quite low! LOL

It would be nice and I think from what people are like on here that there would be no hooning around as everyone seems to have their heads screwed on straight

how tall is Patches then as Sunny is only 14.3hh? Just got visions of Chris in the water again - when we were kids she was riding a 14.1 through the river who decided it got too deep and ran through it scraping her off on the bum of another horse as he went past it. I still laugh when I picture her bobbing in the water

Phew thank god for that
smile.gif
Pidge will hopefully be fine as when he spots a jump he is like a cruise missile

however if just normal hacking in front he is like "what's that horse eating ...... in the hedgerow" and spooks for England, only if in front though, following he is fine.

Count me in - we're within hacking distance of Somerford but will box over though! Weekend would be best for me unless it's during school holidays (don't worry - not still at school myself). There are 2 farm rides at Somerford. The winter one and the normal one, probably best to wait until the normal one is open as it's longer with more jumps for those that want it. I do think there's a limit on the number in a group, but all that could be sorted anyways!

goodie more people interested

are weekends a lot busier than weekdays or does it not make any difference cause of them limiting numbers?
