Somerley or Portman Novice

Hi eventa peeps

Need help, need a nice novice first run end March early April and was thinking of the above?
I have been told about Portman before and to be honest this was my plan but looks like it might take 3hrs so very long day, Somerley looks little closer from Surrey? and I can get mid week dates off easier?

l am doing Portman IN as my 1st,they are both nice kind courses,but l never go to somerley as it always seems to be very wet when l go!! Esp the groung in the sj just my opinion tho!

Ta, how does the SJ compare other than the ground? Does Somerley have many drops?

The SJ at Somerley is always up toheight and in a lovely big arena. There arent any drops on the novice course (I think....)
The ground can get quite deep but it isnt holding.
