Just wondering which equine vets in general people recommend, ive noticed a lot of you are in somerset area and im intrested to hear which vets people recommend and which ones they say not to go near in general.

Francis and Jackson are very very good, or the other on i would reccomend is The stables. They are the only 2 practices i would use in the area :)

I've used a couple of them. Used to be with Delaware from Castle Cary and they seemed ok, but only ever used them for routine and very minor things. Stables Equine practise are good for a lot of things, but from my experiences, NOT lameness. Now with Kingston vets from Sherborne and was very impressed with how they dealt with my horses lameness when we first registered with them. Not needed them for anything else yet thankfully.

Intresting about the lameness and stables, similar experince. Langford had scan for my horse and well lets put it this way dont think they would like to see her soon again, she has issues with vets and needles.

Would never use Stables again for lameness. While I was working on the yard that used them there was 3 horses (including my own) that went lame and were misdiagnosed. Mine was thankfully arthritis diagnosed in one place but was actually another location and not the end of the world, the other two were badly misdiagnosed and never stayed sound afterwards. I only got my final answer because we kept pushing and finally got referred to Langford.

I use a general vet practice (Axe Valley) and then if more serious get everything referred to Langford. Never had a problem with Tim Randle and lots use him round here and trust him.

There is Somerset and there is Somerset... big area to cover, lots of vets!

I use The Mount in Wellington, however Isle Valley Equine Clinic is very near me and has an excellent reputation.

I like the Mount as they look after my dogs as well but they are more of a 'local' practice so depends what you are looking for (and where!)

I use one vet at Garstons in Frome. The other vet is good but isn't so human friendly, this one vet I use diagnosed my horse's problem after 2 years of lameness issues - arthritis misdiagnosed by an otherwise great vet in Kent.

just out of interest, those of you who have used stables for lameness, which vet came out??
im north somerset and used to use bushy but didnt get on with them. to many vets there so didnt know one from the other, different one every time, i use the stables now but i only have nicko or tim! they are the practice owners and in my opinion, the best anywhere, tim is an FEI vet. iv got nicko investigating princes lameness at the mo and he has been utterly fantastic. hes rang me regularly to check on him, explained everything thoroughly to me and has even helped me fill out my claim for as id never done one. micheal is lovley for everyday things but wouldnt touch the other one (dont rely wanna say who, some of you will know)
cant recomend them enough! they are out shepton mallet way.

Had all of them for lameness well you leave 2 so guessing you mean the yonger of those two?

I use isle valley equine clinic. All very good vets and would trust them with anything I presented them with :) spent quite a bit of time doing work experince with them years ago.

Also like that check ups/vaccinations etc are free visits on tuesdays :D

I do have one absolute no no not mentioned on this thread yet. Not sure of your location OP as to whether its relevant, pm me if you want. :)

Guessing no one has tried Silvia House?

The one you said to not use, he is not a people person but he did take the time out to call and check on my girl a week after she had been ill to make sure she was ok, and that meant a lot as my girl did attack him and he was afraid of her, he couldnt walk near her without her lungeing at him. So he has got good points and if you ask him questions and get him talking he actually does come up with good answers.

Another vote for the mount, David and Graham are wonderful, Western Counties also dealt with my horses operation last year and again excellent.

There are no no's like ester said and I am guessing we are talking about the same gentleman's practice....

Mount Vets, Wellington OK for normal equine stuff, jabs, generic wound management, stitching etc. Just make it clear at time of call you want a HORSE vet....Have had some very good results from them over the years.
Just over the border into Devon - Western Counties Equine, who are great for ops / scans / and referrals for wind ops etc. Offer similar service to Langford, and for those south of the County, much better positioned. Mount now seem to refer to them rather than Langford now.......

yes, not had good experiences with him, and neither has my friend recently! i think the practice would benifit better without him as he hasnt got a good reputation with most of the people hes visited unless its a routine jab etc.

Isle Valley near Chard are an equine hospital practice. I use them for stud work.

Have also heard Western Counties is good, although not used them personally even though I'm in Devon.

Im also with Nicko (Stables) and both he and little Nick have been very good over the years. I can also recommend Sharon Alston at Bruton. She is an ex eventer and very hot on lameness.

Silva House is great for small animals....theyve lost the only good horse vet they had recently. I wish he would come back!
