Result! I had the osteopath in today to see Louis and I was somewhat skeptical to say the least but he was amazing and I was thrilled.

Within a few minutes of physically checking Louis from head to toe he pin pointed the route cause of his issues to be his poll. It was completely out and according to the osteo had been for a very long time. Us working him long and low had simply highlighted and aggravated the problem! Hence it appeared that the problem was getting worse. Every-time the osteo applied pressure to the poll, Louis kicked out with his front legs, shook his head and was generally very uncomfortable! Well the osteo then manipulated his poll, releasing all the tension and it made the most horrendous cracking noise!! I asked if I should invest in a comfort bridle but the chap was quite happy that the issue was fixed for now and that this would be unnecessary.

Anyway this tension in the poll was causing tension in the neck, shoulder and back. He also did something to his neck whereby he flexed it to either side and his neck cracked both ways!! Louis was loving every second of this I hasten to add, with the physio he was leaping about on the spot but he fell in love with this chap.

Whatever he did also freed up his back. Louis started out by flinching to pressure applies behind his wither however after treatment this discomfort totally vanished and he was fine with the application of pressure there. His tail is now straight too!

Also, Louis never sweated other than around his ears, this was apparently down to the poll issue. A nervous response, when the treatment was over Louis began to sweat!

I'm very relieved and I truly hope this is the start of good things to come!! I was also a little bit pleased when the osteo said that Louis should be a super dressage horse as he is naturally very flexible and will have some huge expressive paces! I underestimated how blessed we are if we have a fit and well horse and if my boy is this now I intend to fully utilize him from here on in, and have lots of fun!!!!

Horsey was very happy, promptly went out in the field and rolled it flat, legs flying everywhere! I was somewhat alarmed that all the good work was being undone however I was soon reassured.

Osteopath in question was Andy from Astwood. He was BRILLIANT, thorough yet considerate, reasonably priced and explained everything thoroughly. He even helped my dodgy hip!

Oh and the bloods came back from newmarket today, needless to say they were completely clear!

Thanks all for your input and interest, I hope this will help someone else who encounters similar issues. I'm one happy bunny and I can't wait to see the results!!!

Well what a fabulous result. You couldn't have wished for better. Looking forward to lots of pic updates of you in the dressage arena. He's a stunning horse and he's going to love you for sorting out his pains :D

He does! He went ballistic in the field, he must have rolled all the way over about five or six times waggling his legs in the air! :D

Thats great news, my chap a while ago was similarly a little out through his poll and my lady did pretty much what your chap did and there was a definate improvement - also - he has been checked since and no reoccurence !

What a relief for you !

Great news:D He will be so much happier now that is all sorted out and explains the strange sweating also.

Enjoy him now and stop worrying.

I have been following this so very pleased to hear the good news:)
Looking forward to some good comp pics and videos:)

I normally shout at mine when he does that saying don't go and shove it all back where it shouldn't be :p

fab news, I think he looks like a lovely horse (as much as a pony person can like horses ;)) so hopefully onwards and upwards from here :).

I'm the happiest horse owner right now. Had some awful experiences over the last few months, horses having to go back, tears, frustration and upset. Hopefully the persistence will pay off. I'm so happy that Louis' problem has been found as I have fallen completely in love with him and would have been devastated if he had a problem that I couldn't have fixed or if he'd been drugged / needed to go back etc.

So yes there will be pictures and video's of us competing. I'm chomping at the bit to get out, however I'm equally mindful of taking things slowly and letting him find his feet. He needs to learn that he has a natural balance for one, and doesn't need to lean on his rider for support. He learns quickly though.

Onwards and upwards :)

great news and hopefully a happy horse! do make sure you have a follow up appointment in a couple of weeks, to keep an eye reg checks to make sure it stays in place, as the soft tissues will have to adapt too! hopefully andy has given you some instruction as to the way forward with work to strengthen soft tissues to support skeletal structures.

Osteopath in question was Andy from Astwood. He was BRILLIANT, thorough yet considerate, reasonably priced and explained everything thoroughly. He even helped my dodgy hip!

Astwood paid a trip to our yard a few years ago and they looked at my boy and were very thorough. I got a free session as they had visited the riding club where my chap worked and he'd been given a voucher as he was staff. Was a bit sceptical about using another chiro/osteo as the one I used to use didn't detect signs of late end stage wobblers on my previous horse although it was so obvious. It made me very sad to think that the same chiro had come out twice to a horse who was slightly ataxic, kept rubbing his back fetlocks together and was swinging his outside leg very wide on a circle and yet this disease was not detected or even suggested. I don't think I would use them again. They were a McTimoney.

So when I had Andy to my present horse I was very cynical but he fixed him good and proper so to speak, and we never looked back. Very good service.

Wishing you luck. He is a very nice horse in the making. My kind of horse :p

Please do check whether he has a toe-first landing on a hard flat surface (when he is not it your deepish school surface) and if so, get it sorted, or it is likely to cause future issues which I would not wish on you after your previous problems, especially with a horse like Louis with so much promise.

Agree with this, can't get my head round the McTimoney 'flicking' business And they somehow missed the KS and suspensory damage that was the real problem but Osteo is something else, another fan here too, glad you are feeling less worried, I know how awful that feeling is.
